so my Angelfish (Tess) has become my favorite fish, and she always comes a greets me at the glass and is usually the first to eat...however this morning when I fed the tank, she just stayed in the bottom corner of the tank. However, after a while she came out and "explored" but she didnt eat anything! I am worried that she is sick! She is pooping fine, and looks to be breathing fine...
Now, I did put in some pool filter sand last night, and the water was just a little cloudy for about an hour or so...so could she just be stressed from all the commotion? All my readings and tank info is available and up to date...
Thanks guys!
I suppose I could throw in a picture of the tank, and a terrible picture of Tess...

Oooh, I like Tess! And the tank looks really nice too.
I think she'll be fine. I think you are right, she may be a little stressed by the addition of the new substrate,
which looks great, by the way.
Keep the water nice and clean, do some extra partial water changes if necessary.
Are you adding the new sand slowly over time? That would be best. There are some beneficial bacteria on the substrate.
If you put the sand on top of the gravel you will cover the good bacteria. (It's mostly on the surface area.)
Remember to rinse the new substrate really well before putting it in the tank.
When you do the final rinse, be sure to use dechlorinated water.
hth,

ps
Use caution when adding the sand by the filter intakes. Sand will play havoc on your filter impellor.
You may want to raise them to 6" above the substrate.

awesome, well thanks guys! that is all the sand I am going to put in it, so I am kind of going for a naturalish look!
But I think she may be constipated! i said she was pooping fine, but I realized that there is just a little nub of something trying to get out! how would I go about getting her to get this out?
haha something to do with peas....and it is a natural process that isnt going so natural! but thankfully it looks as if Tess has relieved herself, so hopefully tomorrow morning i get my morning greeting!
Tess looks beautiful. You're correct on the peas...frozen then thawed, blanched, skinned and cut into pieces. (No canned peas) too many additives and salt. Glad to hear she is better.
the not eating is why i asked for another pic to make sure it want a parasite..does it stick out all the time or here and there? a breeding tube wont stay stuck out 24/7
deal..i have to log off as work comes way to early tomorrow but going to get butterfly(angel guru) to help if shes still on ...if not, I hope their are some other members available ..goodluck!!!!!!!!
ok...so since my digital camera skills need some work, I made a video...with my digital camera haha so hopefully this shows what she has! thank you again!
ok looking at her all day i can see that her breeding tube is indeed out, but this brown thing around it just doesnt look natural!...also it looks like she is really stressed, and she hardly moves and is starting to breath heavily...all my other fish are perfectly fine...my platys are actually courting each other (and the other fish) but Tess (the angel) is not doing good at all!
i still cant tell..grrrr but it doesnt look like a normal breeding tube...can you tell if it looks like a worm or does it wiggle around like a worm does? ive never had a fish with parasites but im leaning that way with her ....try searching the forum for parasite and worms and ill do the same to see if we can find anything to compare it to
check this link in the second thread and click on the link with pics
i will definitely search around...i wish i had more time to research but i start my new job tonight and will need to leave here pretty soon...i am tempted to just net her and try and take it out with tweezers! but i know that would be a baaaad idea...
wow, there was a picture of these worms, and i am pretty sure that is exactly what they are! ok, so it looks as if people use medicated food, but if she wont eat then how can I fix this?
