Please help me sex my Angels!!!!

Hi,

I have two grown angels, LPS said they are 1yr or 1 1/2yrs old. They are my only two angels and get along great!! I know it's hard to do with angels, but I really want to know if they are male/females? Not because I plan on breeding them, but just curious.

Thank you...the more opinions the better!!

Hi. The first pic looks like a male. the second looks like a female but i'm not sure is hard to tell from that pic. Can't see well the breeding tube, but looks like there's a little bump on the bottom. Maybe Shawnie can tell you better than me.

I know the pics aren't too clear, I took them with my IPHONE. But, neither of them really have visible breeding tubes. The first one has absolutely nothing there, and the 2nd one has barely anything either. I've read conflicting things about that, like males' are more protuding and females are more stump-like...but mine don't really have anything!

Well if they don't have nothing they should be males both. The other thing is the head shape. Usually males have a little hump on the head. There's another threat here about sexing Angels. I was looking for it But couldn't find it.

Breeding tube may not be vvisible until ready to spawn.
Although difficult to determine but my wild guess would be fenmale for 1st pic and male for 2nd pic,
Video of fish moving/swimming/dashing around with their belly and anl fin fully extended/erected would be easier to determine if and when possible.
When they are ready/mature and of opposite sex (sometimes two females can simulate spawning and lays eggs and of course, no frys from such clutch) and paired off, should easily see pointed tube on male and more blunt tube on female

Thanks everyone for your input. I wish it were easier. That's alright, I'm not looking to breed them, and the pH in our water is too alkaline for them to spawn anyways. I love them though, they have more personality of any fish I have!

my angels are in a 7.6 tank and they breed every two weeks LOL ...they dont seem to mind different ph's as long as its a stable one ...they are beautiful tho!!

Im with Cerianthus and his wild guess as well... I think the first photo is a female and the second photo, a male.
I believe if they were both males they would have been fighting by now to the point of having to separate them. But maybe that was just the case of my two mature males. Possibly two females can get along better together which may be the reasoning behind the guess's that they are both females.
IMO the second photo showed more of the hump associated with the males than the first photo that appeared to have a slanted forhead.
More photos sure would help!
In any event... if they have been getting along all this time together Id say count your blessings!

My gut feeling is the same, the first one a female and second a male. The second one has more of a bump on his head, and they get along AMAZINGLY!!! I absolutely LOVE these fish, they are by far my favorite and I love them all!!
