Angelfish with an attitude

So my Angelfish - Spicolli is suddenly having a bit of an attitude moment. He is the lone male angelfish in an oddball mix of fish in a 150 gallon. Today I have noticed he seems to be looking for a fight - or just being a little aggressive. Normally he is the mellowist inquisitive little guy. He normally just likes to stare at you through the glass in a very stoned way (thus the name Spicolli)
I know in pairs and when mating angels can be aggressive but he's my lone angel and he's trying to bully Bigger fish for no reason other than they swam by him. He's not causing any damage but is this normal? Do these fish go through "mating times" (like being in heat) and could that be his issue?

What kind of fish are with him and how many of each? It might be a compatibility issue.

To add to the above they can be very territorial. They are cichlids. It is even worse during the spawning process.

He's with a major hodgepodge of other fish (this was a rescue tank) and they all get along surprisingly well probably due to the size of the tank. He's with 2 tinfoil barbs, a blood parrot, a chalceus, a silverdollar, 3 gouramis - gold, blue and snakeskin (very timid fyi), a bala, a knifefish (smaller version - not the clown), a common pleco, a pictus and two very fast giant danios. He's not really being aggressive in trying to attack the other fish - it's more like he's feeling a little nudgy and is looking to boss anyone who swims by around. He's also smaller than most of the other fish and he's never done this before (that I've seen) It's actually kinda humorous to watch - I was just wondering if they go through a mating "season" even if they don't have a mate.

I'm guessing and may be completely wrong but I would have to say no. They do not go through a mating "season" without a mate. I would like to know the answer to this myself. Too, it could depend on the type of fish. Sounds like you're Angel is protecting and or establishing his perimeters.
