I'm just sick

Yesterday we went out of town for the day and we expected to be back later that evening. So I turned the heat in the house off while we were gone. Well we got talked into staying and didn't get home until this morning around 9. Of course the first thing I did was check on my fish. Everyone was perfect except my Angelfish. They didn't come to greet me so I frantically started looking for them. They were both lying on their sides on the bottom barely breathing....I couldn't think of what might have gone wrong. So I looked at the temp and it was 50 degrees ..It was soooo cold last night here a big cold front moved in. The heater plug was just pulled out of the outlet the tiniest bit, enough for it to not have power. I'm sure one of my kids did it. ..What awful timing. I would have caught it if I were here and our heat would have been on. I'm just beside myself. I plugged the heater back in and I'm raising it about 4 degrees every hour. I really hope they pull through...What are the chances that they will be ok?? Could there be permanent damage? What else can I do??. I'm really just sick about this so any help would be great. Thanks guys.

Oh gosh Cesch, I'm so sorry.
It sounds like you're doing what you can. I'm not sure, but 4 degrees an hour seems like a lot. Wait for someone who knows for sure.

Good luck, I hope your angels make a full recovery.

I was thinking the same thing but I went with 4 because the temp was so low. Maybe 2 would have been better. I just freaked and wanted to get them warm.

They are both up off their sides. The bigger one (what I think is the male) is swimming around..Kinda. ....He's really spending allot of time in the corner at the top of the tank I figured It will take awhile before I can judge if they are ok or not. I'm going to give it till tomorrow before I start freaking out. The smaller one ( What I think is the female) Is inside the castle cave thing and won't come out. My husband thought maybe she just needed help so he turned it over and she just went further up in there so I"m letting her be. She is moving around in the castle and upright so I'm hoping for the best. I can't believe what bad timing all this is. I'm just trying not to get upset, my tummy hurts though. Thanks for your thoughts guys. I'm really hoping everyone makes it. I'm kinda worried they won't be the same fish when all this is said and done..But I guess their is no sense in worrying about something that hasn't happened yet. I'm just going to keep checking on them and cross my fingers.

Both of them are swimming around now. I fed them and they chowed down so I'm hoping that's a good sign. I read in a article about Angelfish somewhere that the first thing they do to show something is wrong is go on a hunger strike. Don't know if that's true or not but I'm using it to make me feel better about them. Today is the day I'm suppose to do my Weekly water change should I go ahead and do it or should I hold off so I don't stress them anymore..Cleaner water and changing temps again or dirtier water and no change..I don't know which one wins in this situation...What do you guys think??

for them to eat, is HUGE!!!!! keep the faith....if your water parims are fine, I wouldnt stress them with a change...test your water and go from there...

Cesch, i once add the same thing happy exact same temp also, my fish survived and nothing happened to them, things happen sometimes but with the right care and maintenance they usually come through to fix themselves up. also your fish are lucky to be indoors mine were outdoors, rain, very high wind.

I hope my misfortune makes you feel a little better

When water/body temps are down metabolism is down so thats why they looked/acted like they did.
Glad their doing well. Yep your right eating and the angel dance are how you tell whats going on with them
Watch the next few days for ICH. Keeping the temps up should stall it off but just in case.

Watch out for ich as the drop in temp may lower there immune system to the point that they get it.

Hmmm seems I was beat to the punch on that one...but still good advise...lol

Thanks guys..I dosed their water with some garlic juice so I'm hoping that will boost their immune system. I just hoping they were healthy enough to begin with that they won't be too bad off. I'm keeping a close eye on them...My husband felt awful too..We got to talking today and he's been giving them treats and so have I on top of their regular feedings...lol..He told me today he gave them frozen brineshrimp this morning before breakfast and I gave them some for breakfast and lunch..lol..That's ok they need to know they are loved and we didn't mean to freeze them.

Carol, I kinda figured that's why they were in slow motion...The cold temp just slowed everything down..I just kept thinking what they must have been thinking..lol..Probably thought I was trying to cryogentically freeze them. Save them for later.

have faith..after the ice storms a month ago, my angel tank was down to 50 also for 2 days...my kids spawned a few days after the power came back on no ich ...i was very fortunate I know and am even more grateful someone was watching them, so just stay positive...I think our angels have a higher authority on their shoulders

Higher temps cause them to mature faster, just tell them you were trying to keep them young
