I feel so bad!!!! :(

For the first time in 8 years my chinese algae eater has done what everybody has warned me about.

Ive kept countless amounts of angel fish with the algae eater and now hes killed 2!!
2 Months ago i noticed one of my angel fish went missing, and that was it, the angel catfish got the corpse before i did, but this time i found the end product of a chinese algae eater.

Heres the angelfish, one pic is before and the other pic is after the chinese algae eater killed her.

The companion of the angelfish that was killed 2 months ago was alone so i moved my 2 new marbles into the tank with her.
Now the female out of my new pair has been killed.

Both of the remaining 2 angelfish look terrible, they have missing scales and split fins, but they seem to be okay and they havent changed the way they act.

The moral of the story is NEVER TRUST A CHINESE ALGAE EATER, even after 8 years of it being ok.

Rant over

Yikes..I'm so sorry!!!..That stinks..I gave my baby CAE away because of that..He hadn't commited any crimes yet but I knew eventually he would...That is tough..I'm sure your very fond of him since you've had him for 8 years..What are your plans??

At the moment hes sitting in my 8G shrimp and guppy tank, his mouth is too small to eat them and they are to small for him to suck to pieces. Hes going straight back to the LFS tomorrow.
Thats the thing with CAEs, when they are young they LOVE algae and are very good at cleaning, when they get older, they sit and do nothing apart from eat flat bodied fish at night

I'm so sorry about your little angelfish. I had an golden chinese algae eater the same thing started happening in my tank when the golden algae eater was small he got along fine with the angelfish but as he got bigger he started after them and I had to get him out quickly but he did kill the other two golden chinese algae eaters before I knew it. They are sure sneaky little buggers. I move the algae eater in with my zebra danios and he was fine with them.

I'm really sorry you lost your angels.

Geez, after 8 years I can understand why you think you'd be safe to have him.

Hes back in the fish store now in a tank of oscars

They said which tank do you think he would be ok in then?

I was like, oscars wont let him suck on them and they are too slow to eat him so i told them to put him in there

I'm sorry you lost your angels as well. I'm glad the fish store took it back. How big where the oscars? Just cause they where big don't mean there slow. Believe me some of them can be fast when they want to be. Mine was 13 inches and she was fast.

are you sure he killed them? Or found them after they died? Usually they just suck on their slime because it's an easy source of protein. Then it takes awhile for them to die if he keeps on sucking on them

We never had any issues with our CAE that reached six inches. A little bit of algae wafer or food that the others missed and he was happy as a clam. The only time he had 'meat' was if another fish died, then he'd try for the body. He never went for a live fish, though, even the skirt tetras- he didn't get above six inches though, he hurt himself on something and died.

Maybe we just got a nice CAE.
