Angelfish in 20 or 29 gallon tank

This weekend I'm getting either a 20 or 29 gallon aquarium. I have changed my mind a few times of what kind of fish I am going to choose since joining this forum yesterday. Anyway, my question is... once my aquarium is cycled can I add several young angels? I eventually plan on setting up my 90 gallon tank to transfer them to but it will be a while before I can do that. If I can only have 1 angel in the 20 or 29 gallon tank, I will definitely decide not to get them. I really do want them though, not just one. Wouldn't it take a while to grow in the smaller tank for them to be overcrowded? And just transfer them to the bigger tank later?

I think you should go with a 29 gallon long or tall.

I have a 20 gallon long, and I have one angelfish now, he killed his other friends

He is about 2-3 inches from his nose to tail, and about 3-4" from bottom fins to dorsal fins.

He's growing now I just have to find him a female to mate with soon when he gets big enough.

I can tell you, that you can keep 2-3 angels in there for as long as they live. I have some angels in my big 500 gallon, and they are HUGE as large as the ones in the wild. They are 10-12" from nose to tail and 14-15" from bottom fin to dorsal fin (top)

Yeah they are big

Don't worry, just get a small or medium sized fish, and keep it in the 29 gallon, you can have a bunch of fishes in the tank if you want, just don't put too many because the angel might think of them a dinner because some fishes don't get as big as angels.

Oh and DON'T EVER put them in with Piranhas. Piranhas eat angelfishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the wild and sometimes it could be vice versa. Angels can kill Piranhas, if the piranhas aren't big enough.

angels do better in tall tanks and you wont stunt their organ growth..20 long isnt recommended as they grow and their beautiful fins take shape

Hi Markstr
Welcome to fishlore btw
I was looking at your photo of your tank set up so far, and as a suggestion, I would not lodge your driftwood in the tank as you seem to have it there. With my own experience, one time I lodge a long piece of driftwood at the bottom of the tank and under the hood. In two days the bottom of the tank cracked after the wood swelled with water and the pressure point of the bottom of the driftwood caused the tank base to crack in the same spot and I had 29g of water drain out over night til I noticed it the next morning. Good thing I didnt have fish in it at that point.
On another note, its not good to have a lot of points sticking out of the driftwood as it can tear the long fins of an angelfish.
just my suggestion, i would hate to see you loose your tank this way.
