Black Angelfish (maybe a problem with him)

I have one black angelfish about 5" in a 29 gallon tank. I also have 2 african brown knife fish and 1 plecostomus who aren't large, they are healthy, and they get along just fine with the angelfish. Anyways, the angelfish has a few gray cloudy spots around his eyes and gills and his eyes are also cloudy. He also doesn't eat as much as he should. It has been like this for a while and he still seems healthy. What are the possible causes? How can I help him get back to normal? How can keep it from happening again? Thanks for your response.

Could be some sort of fungus.

What are your water parameters?

Hi Moncy and welcome to fishlore.
Cloudy eye is usually a symptom of water conditions not being ideal. You have some large fish in your 29g and your pleco is a big waste producer.
I would do an water change asap an continue to do water changes as that will actually help to clear up the cloudy eye on your Angelfish.
What is your water change schedule? and do you have water test results you can post for us?

Ditto to what Kate says.
The water changes should help wonderfully!

Try raising the temperature up to 85 - 90ºF possibly to 88ºF because 90 might be too hot..

The very high temperature on the water should be able to kill off any bacteria.

Oh, and put in some aquarium salt. That always works for me.

Don't put too much because angelfish don't really need it.

I hope you have a lot of plants in your tank, because they will give off a lot of oxygen that can be a vital source to your fishes.

In my 500 gallon I rarely have sick fish, and the reason for that is because I keep the water at 84ºF all the time, and a lot of live plants around 200-250 live plants in my tank. It's a lot, but I don't have to perform a lot of siphoning and water changes.

In your 29 gallon tank, it is best to perform a water change, about 5 - 6" of the water in your tank.

Oh, and your ghost knives... you'll have to watch out for them, because they grow up to 30" as large as the Mbu Puffer.

Good luck, I hope your angelfish is going to feel better

A pleco was mentioned in the original post, and plecos do not tolerate salt very well.

My black ghost didn't tolerate salt well either, so I imagine the brown might not either. I would stay away from the salt.
