?'s about angels

I have a few questions about angelfish that I would really love to have answered. they are stated below

1. it is true that angelfish like deep tank due to the way their body is shaped
2. are angelfish compatible with gold gouramis and tiger barbs?
3. how many angelfish can you have in a 27 gal. hex tank, with some barbs and a gold gourami (like 2 angels maybe)?
4. what is the best filtration for these fish in this particular tank?

those are my questions for now, if someone could answer them thank would be great!

You could keep one angelfish in a 27 gal tank, although the hex shape is not good since it doesn't give fish much horizontal swimming room. Angels do like deep tanks, but also long ones. The more room, the better.

Never keep tiger barbs with angels - they're likely to rip up their fins - and gold gouramis grow too big and can become aggressive at maturity.

If you want more fish of this size, I suggest 55 gallons.

1. True, same goes for other fish with these body features, as Discus.
2. No.
3. 1 or 2. If you want a pair, the easiest tried and true method is get six juveniles, watch them grow a bit and wait for territorial fights to show. Observe which two individuals are protecting a particular area of the tank, you have your pair. Remove others.
4. Sponge filter if you plan to breed. Any filter will do otherwise, as long as you adjust the water movement to be mild.

thanks guys, so the gold gourami should go in my future livebearer tank?, I know he personally is okay with guppies, mollies, and platys with him being the only Gourami in the tank. so I could just stick him in with the livebearers? also, can I have a small school of tetra with the angel?

I can't comment on your Gourami question, but I think I can help with the neon tetra question.

Most people will probably advise against Neons with Angels. Once your Angels get big enough, the Neons will look like a snack to the Angels.

However, I have read a few posts where people have had success keeping them together. I am one that "so far" has had good success keeping them together. I have a 55 gallon with (in order of how they were added) 5 Neon Tetras, 6 Dwarf Neon Rainbows, 4 Corys, and 2 Angels. I like to think that my neons and angels get along for (2) reasons:

1) The Neons were the first addition to the tank. My Angels didn't come until about a month later, so that gave my neons time to adjust (and get bigger) and claim their territory

2) I bought my Angels as juvaniles and were too small to eat my Neons.

I like to think that they now view each other as tankmates.

Hey,
Angels do like tall tanks but I wouldn't recommend barbs or gourami. Tetras are probably more compatible. I think a pair could be kept in a 27g if they got along well, but some tall plants and caves with tall openings would be good to have.

how about the 27 hexagon tank with 1 gold gourami and some tiger barbs instead of angels?

Gourami would be happier in a tank that has more surface area since they have the air labyrinth organ but the biggest problem is they're all territorial fish, particularly angels and gourami so the end result is often dead or badly injured fish. Tetras or dwarf plecos tend to be the most common tankmates for angels as they pretty much accept the angels as lords and masters of the tank.

1)angels like deep tanks because unlike other fish they grow taller, not longer. However they llove long tanks as they like a lot of swimming space.
2)angelfish have long fins. A tiger barb will happily shred an angelfish. Gold gouramis will tend to get aggresive and territorial once they are older ad bigger.
3)You may fit one or a pair, but not until you get rid of the barbs.
4)Sorry. I'm not sure what's BEST.

1/ The deep tank is preferred. My angels rarely use the full 5ft length, they tend to stay in their areas, so a shorter tank would be fine.

2/ No, these are not compatable with Angels

3/ 2 Angels with some cardinal tetras and a few otos/bristlenose plecs

4/ Cannister filters i find to be the best for fitration.
