Growth of Angels

Hi All,

Just Wondering, I am fairly new to owning fish. I have bought two angels around 3-4 weeks ago.

I have bought both the same size and fairly young/small aound 2-3 cms in length. Since then one has remained around the same size while the other has almost doubled in size.

Is this normal, do they have different growth spurts ? or is one a dud and a runt of the litter that I bought!!

I must admit at feeding, the larger one swims around actively looking for the food, the other just nibbles at what floats near him.

They seem to gow at different rates from my experience. The females seem to grow faster than the males. I don't know if this is common or not tho.

On average, they are dime body size by 8-10 weeks, nickel by 12-16 weeks. This is generally the smallest size you will see them in shops. They are quarter size anywhere from 4-5 months, half dollar around 6-7 months, around dollar body size at 9-10 months. They continue growing throughout their lives, but it does slow down as they get older.

This is an average. In any spawn you will have a few that are fast growers, and some that grow more slowly. Some phenotypes, such as DD blacks or albinos generally grow more slowly, more hardy ones such as silvers or marbles will grow more quickly. This also is dependent on water quality, temperature, and diet. Throw the quality of breeding in the bloodlines in there as well, and you will see fish at the low end as well as the upper end of the average.

LOL, a lot of people who have dogs or cats tend to say litter. It's funny.
Cool, my silver female seemed to have the same growth rate as my black ghost male, but then over the past few month he has gotten bigger and thicker. They are about 2 yrs old, and I got them at a dollar size.

They do grow at different rates. We have a batch of young that will need new homes this month.. Some are 2 or 3 times the size of others, 1 is even as big as the 6 angel young from a batch 1 month older.
