growth on angelfish...

Hi, my boyfriend has an angelfish and I have a couple questions about it.

1) It has a growth on its underbelly that I'm worried about. It looks kind of like a reddish orange bubble on its belly almost as far back as the bottom of the tail. I was wondering what it is and if its dangerous.

2) Whenever we turn on the tank light the fish starts flailing around the water as if it is very disoriented. Is this normal? Is it bad for the fish?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Could you possibly post a pic of the growth? It will be easier to figure out what it is if other members have a visual. Also, everyone is going to ask you for your water parameters. So it'll be easier just to post them . The growth/behavior may have something to do with your levels in the water.

welcome to fishlore!!

I agree, a pic would help alot...

as far as the lights, can you keep a small light in the room and turn that on a bit before the tank lights? sometimes if a room is dark with tank lights off, with no natural lighting, it might be the reason they freak when you turn on the tank lights..so a small light in the room might help with some of their stress ...gooodluck!

Welcome to Fishlore.

That could be a parasite or an ulcer, but a pic would help ID what problem and med is needed.

Shawnie's right about the light. A lot of fish will be shocked when tank lights just come on suddenly so ambient lighting from a window or room light.
