Angels dying question...

Hi, I have a batch of angel who are about 3 month old and all the sudden they start dying. The water is good except nitrate. I did a partial water change and added some medication for nitrate. The symptoms are: they are breathing heavily and laid down on the ground until they dye. Any suggestions? Thanks

im sorry your angels are dieing ...they are amazing fish...when you say water is good, what is it exactly? and what test kit are you using? angels are super sensitive to all water conditions and need a very good established tank...NO meds should be given unless totally necessary as they are too sensitive for that...high nitrates are controlled with less feedings and more water changes....

amonia 0 nitrite 0 pH around 6.5 nitrate about 30. Just did a partial water change again. Using Master test kit. I just looked at some dead ones and it appear that most of them have redness on the top part of the mouth inside.

only thing I can think of is nitrate poisioning..but usually redness is from ammonia or nitrites...that nitrate reading is high, but I was expecting higher to kill the angels...unless its been going on for awile...water changes are your best friend for now..are there any agressive fish in with them? im sorry again for the losses

no, they are alone in the 30g I was thinking if there is too many of them there but i didn't think that they could die from it. They are there from the birth alone.

how many do you have? and im leaning towards the nitrates as theres nothing else to kill them...overstocking could be agressiveness but they are still pretty young.

there is about 40 of them there right now and about 10-15 died. another one died in last 30 minutes. I changed 7-8gallons yesterday and another 5 today, do you think i should do another 5-10g change or that will be too much?

Most of them about 1.5-2 inches.

holy smokes!! yes overstocked is the issue ..and I have an overstocked tank, and to keep the fish healthy, I HAVE to do 50% changes ever other day or my readings go crazy...did you buy all them or do you have a mating pair?

i have a mating pair. they were in the same tank until babies start eating them, so i removed the parents. but there is no sign of aggression so i thought it's fine. Should i split them to another 30g? I will do 50% change now.

You'll definitely want more room for that many angels who are that old. What kind of water tests are you using? What are you feeding them? What do you use for water conditioner?

I am suffering the same problem too with my fishes, just I use reverse osmosis water, and my plants are good.

My angels are dying again!! I shouldn't have done the stupid water change T_T
