I need Help Feeding my angels!

Hi everyone,

I Havent been on for a while as (touch wood!) I have had a problem free journey with my tank -

Now I had a little problem, at first I had 6 Neons then I added 4 Dwarf Rainbows these guys are all fine but I had a bit of trouble feeding the neons as the bigger fish were so fast that the Neons didnt get any food! But I have got around this by distracting the rainbows with my fingertip and feeding the neons at the other side of the tank - problem solved!

Next problem, I now have 2 beautiful angelfish (Eric and Barbie) but I am concerned that they arent getting any food as they are so much slower than the other fish. I have only had them 3 days and they seem healthy and happy but do i need a different sort of food for them? They seem to pick at the live plants in the tank is that sufficient for them??

Any help would be much appreciated, I would have put this in the fish breeds but I couldnt find one for angels??

Speak soon xx

Try & train them to come up for food. Mine see me coming with the food & are at the surface already. Mine love all food. angel fish are piggies...as soon as they get use to being with you...they'll will eat with a vengeance lol

Hi there,
I second what Allie said.. I have an angel in with my rainbows too. Yes, the rainbows dart across the surface looking for food, but once your angels get used to their new home and tankmates they should have no problem with getting into the action. Angels like cichlid flakes as well as tetra min flakes. They also love hikari frozen bloodworms and so do the rainbows, so you may think about adding it to their diet as well. Good luck with your angels, in no time at all, given the right diet you will see your angels grow fast and in the end will be much bigger than the rainbows and have no problem competing for food!

Hi!

Have a go with those special slow-sinking granules you can get. They sink slowly, and give your angels a chance to eat them as they descend.

Our Angel comes to me to be fed too. He built up trust to take food from me a step at a time and now he often nibbles my fingers in his enthusiasm to get the food. I'd make sure they get enough meat in the diet and Omega One brand cichlid pellets are also good for them.

My Angels quickly learned when food was coming too. They will make sure to get their fair share.. you are a dear heart for making sure that everybody gets their fair amounts. It is fun to train the Angels to eat from your fingers.

Thanks everyone for your help I am going to get some Cichlid flakes as they have been in there a week now and still not oming up for food.

Also 1 of them is white with black stripes but his stripes have started to fade I think Does that happen? I am worried he might be sick as I am supposed to be getting my Red tailed Shark tomorrow and if he is sick the last thing I want to do is introduce another fish?!
He is still happily swimming around he just doesnt seem as brightly coloured as he was. Any Ideas?

Thanks again!

Update,

The angels have special cichlid sinking food now which they will eat although they don't seem all that fussed. They are still a bit nervous but soon they will be bigger than those greedy rainbows!

Thanks for all your help!

don't worry about the coloring too much, the stripes will come and go with stress/water-fluctuations - even mood. but yeah they are little piggies, it's kinda funny to see their nice flat sides get all rounded after a nice meal... brine shrimp are usually a hit too.
