angel advice needed new to forum

Hi there,

we are new to the forum not so new to aquariums, my wife and I just moved and are in the process of re-setting up out angel tank. We decided to have a real good go at planting the tank and getting them establised before stocking. Our tank is 130 litre (32 gallon) I have earthy colored gravel 3-5mm in diametre. Currently soaking some mopano driftwood to leech some tannins my questions are.

Thinking about using a DIY CO2 system and was wondering if it makes a noticable difference to plants?

Thinking of adding this iron rich stuff to the gravel http://www.seachem.com/products/prod...ouriteRed.html

What are some good plants that will give great effect in an amazon type setup?

What are good ways to get iron into the substrate and is it worth while to plants?

Keeping in mind all suggested items must be avail in Australia.

Hoping to stock it with 2-4 angels (until pair selection and will keep two) and 12-15 Rummy nosed tetras. Also after a loach/cat or something with very striking black and whit bands and does not grow too big just for some added interest.

Regards Darren

Hi Darren, WELCOME to FISHLORE !

Hope people jump on and help out soon. You pose several questions, usually it helps get quick response if you post a question on plants under the plant thread, and angel questions under the section this is posted in...

There are several folks on from your neck of the woods, so hopefully they wil answer any questions about what is available there.

Post often, and be sure to show us some pictures when you have your tank up and running.

Lastly, just because you aren't totally new, still check out the articles at the top of the page on nigrogen cycle, there may be things there you are not aware of. Good luck with your tank!

I just put that Flourite Red into one of my tanks, and I'm told it does very well with growing plants. My advice is to rinse, rinse and rinse, and then rinse again.

Most importantly, what kind of lighting do you have? Most plants will do okay with 2 - 2 1/2 watts per gallon, so you'll need about 60 watts to grow plants other than very low light types.

Good plants for angelfish are tall ones, like Amazon Sword plants and giant Vallisneria e.g.

Thanks for that,

I am running about 1.25 watts per gallon but am looking to try and get brighter fluro tubes for my aqua one
