Eggs!

I just looked over at my tank and I saw something so I looked a little closer and my angel laid eggs! I am really excited. I think she may be eating some of them but thats alright I suppose. I am excited. They have almost what looks like little tails though is that normal? I hope they hatch!

Where did she lay them?

How recently before you spotted the eggs had you looked at the spot the eggs are in?

They probably will eat the first batch, but can lay again in as soon as 2 weeks.

She layed them on a radican sword leaf. I looked at the spot like 5 minutes before and She has stopped eating them I think she was ridding the infertile ones.

Good job CORY!!

Nice accomplishment for your 1 and a half months in the hobby!

In the wild they do rid the batch of infertile ones, but Dino is right, sometimes they can take a half dozen batches before they realize that they shouldn't eat their babies.

Yea I looked even closer and they arent eating it they are blowing it looks like. They are very protective and I was pointing at them so my mom could see and the male came up violently to my finger. They are both always by the eggs now. Im really lucky that I picked a pair from petland! They look like they are almost in the wiggler stage but since they were just layed today that cant be possible can it? I was also juggling the possibility that I didn't notice them until today. I looked at the plant in general but that leaf is kind of hidden if you look at the front of the take so they may have been there for a few days. Only time will tell. I think I may keep 2 for my empty 29 gallon and sell the others if they make it.

If they were laid today then they can not be wigglers.

You have 3 decent options for first foods for the babies:

1) Boiled egg yolk strained through 2 layers of cloth (real real small pieces and very little at any one time. Excess yolk will foul the water quickly if over done)

2) Baby brine shrimp (live, frozen, etc) the pet stores should have them

3) Liquid fry food. It is expensive (around $6 per tube, but has the nutrients that they need)

You can do one or all of these. If you get far enough for there to be fry Dino and I would suggest letting the parents try to raise them. (You would still do the first food options, but just not pulling the eggs or wigglers or fry.)

The fry that are raised by their parents are both less likely to eat their own fry when they produce and will usually grow faster than their counterparts that were isolated.

Best of luck my friend.

Alright so I will just leave them in the 55 till they begin to outgrow there fry stage then move them to the 30 for a while then sell them off I suppose. If they make it that far that is.

Wigglers today! Some are on the sand but some are still hanging on the leaf. I also noticed some other different colored ones (more white) hanging from what looked like a thread off of one of the leafs(opposite to where angels were). Maybe cherrys?

... You are so lucky to have picked a male and female at the store when only buying 2, and then to have them be a compatable mating pair.... and then to have them be two that have so far not eatten their fry...

I would suggest you go play the lottery, but you aren't 18, so that would be illegal. (A bit exaggerated, but not by far. )

Congrats!! She may have laid them a couple of days ago and just moved tehm where you could se them. They should be free swimming in 3-4 days from the wiggler stage.
Good Luck!

Yea thats what I was thinking also because she moved them while I was at school. I came home to a empty leaf and they had moved them to a different leaf. Also they are really good parents. If any of them fall off they either catch them in mid air with their mouth or suck them up of the sand and they "spit" them back out onto the leaf. =) made me smile lol

Congrats! We're looking for a good sized female to go in with Fred, our black veiled male and are hoping they'll do as well as your pair. Can't wait for the pics!

I think the best thing to do right now is artificially take care of them. You should get a ten gallon tank bare bottom with a bubbler, heater and raise them until they take their angelfish form then transfer them to a real tank.
