Cant believe it! My 2 angels are fighting now.

Hello Everyone!
Well I have to say that I never thought I would be posting this topic. My Angel fish are fighting!!! ugggh.... LOL. Well, its not really funny, just thought it was never going to happen. These two have been together since I bought them 7 months ago. They have been in the other 29g community tank, they have been in the 55g discus tank and now have been in their own 29g tank since late august. They have never fought with each other before and I really thought that I had a compatible pair here. Now it seems that they are really fighting with each other. Attacking and pecking at each other. It appears that it is the smaller black and white marble that is doing the attacking, and when the bigger silver stripe gets tired of putting up with the attack, it lets the other one know.
Now I am trying to figure out what the heck is going on?? And what I should do about it? I have brought the smaller discus to the other 29g tank and really do not want to put a angel in with them. Should I move the discus back to the 55g with the larger discus and separate the two angels? That would leave one angel in a 29g by itself with no other fish.
Any suggestions? Or should I just let it run its course and hopefully they will decide who is the dominate one?
thanks!

~ kate

I would suggest adding 'line-of-sight' breaking objects, such as driftwood, rock, plants, pots, decorations, etc. A single piece of marble, limestone, or driftwood will not play with the pH enough to even register a difference if you keep the 20% waterchanges going every week. Also if it is a pair the flat surface of a piece of limestone or marble doubles as a laying area for the eggs if they decided to stop fussing, as long as it is propped up vertically.

Best of luck.

thanks CWC...
I will have to go to the LFS and pick up some more plants asap then. I have two smooth flat river rocks in the tank now that if the time came that these two were to pair off that they can use to spawn. Still no idea of the gender at this point yet. I do a 50% water change weekly along with vacuuming, keeping the water crystal clear for them in the chance that they do spawn. It sure would be nice. That is why I have kept them in the tank by themselves with no plans for tankmates.

Oh Kate thats bad! Sorry, i know how it is!
At the moment each of my angels are attacking the other. I think they are figuring who's boss or something. I'm monitoring them and so long as it doesnt get worse i think it will be ok.

Mine bicker all the time but no one is worse for wear. Maybe you should switch thing around in th tank add some new decor. They are just getting territorial...they do get over it eventually tho.

Kate, I had a similar problem with my Angels too. I bought them together, they were growing up together, etc ... and then suddenly, a few months after I bought them they were fighting too. But it went away after a while, and then they paired up. Maybe you have a pair? I really hope this is the reason, and not some other problem.

thanks Allie and Isabella
I hope that it wont amount to much more than what they are doing now. I have added some more plants, tho they are plastic for now til I can add some live plants, hopefully some nice amazon sword plants if I can find some that look good. The ones lately at the LFS are not looking so healthy.
It still appears like the smaller angel doing the attacking. If it could talk, I would say that it would appear to be barking at the other lol. With quick movements of back and forth like its going to attack. Guess its a threatening motion. But when it does attack, it really tried to butt the other one in the side and I dont want any injuries. But rather than separate them at this point, I will continue to monitor the behavior and if it doesnt stop, then I will have to separate them which would be a shame since as I mentioned, they have been together for seven months already.
thanks for the support as it does appear to be a common behavior between angels when they grow up. Keeping my fingers crossed that they may pair up... who knows?
thanks again, ~ kate
