Confusing answer from breeder

I found a Angelfish breeder an hour away from me.My husband is e-mailing back and forth with him, cause we found him on ebay.My husband asked him how many Angels I could have in my 55g.And the breeder told him 10-12 medium size Angels. Now I'm confused I thought it is 1 per 10g?Am I wrong or is the breeder wrong?

When they get mature 10-12 angels will be way too many angels in a 55 G. What he may have in mind is putting them together then when they pair removing the others and keeping a pair or two.
When I had angels in the 75G I had two pair and had to remove a pair when one was spawning.
At one time I had 4 males in the 75 and they did fine.
I personally wouldn't put more than 4 in a 55G. they will grow and claim territory. when they get ready to spawn the whole tank is their territory

Or it could be that this breeder is just trying to sell more fish.

Of course, that's probably just my cynical side rearing its ugly head.

Your cynical side has an ugly head ? how unusual LOL

Breeders are usually better than that about giving advice.

Thank you for your replies. Not sure if he just wants to sell more, but that was my thought too.He didn't say anything about removing any Angels when they are matured,he just said that's the amount of Angels that I could keep in my 55g.I have 4 in there right now and was thinking about getting 1 more from the breeder. But maybe it's better if I just leave it as it is,since you said 4 is all I should have.Another question I have. Are black and black marble Angels more fragile then other colors?I can not keep them alive.

I haven't had trouble keeping blacks alive but every black I have ever had was more aggressive. The DD black lace female we had had red eyes and hubby named her "the devil woman" LOL

The Angels the breeder has are either solid black or black marble ones.He has them on ebay right now if you wanna take a look. The black marble ones I bought from the store never survived, don't know why.The pics that I have up are the first ones I bought and they all died within 3 weeks. The Angels I have now 3 are silver with 3 black stripes and one silver with yellow on top of it's head and fin.I have him a week and the other 3 for 3 weeks now.So far everything looks good, but you never know.
