| What does the 'kissing' mean for angels? Angel and Stanley were locking mouths tonight and I don't know if that is a sign of them both being the same gender or if that means that they are just proving to be a good mate to the other one. Please help, I don't want to end up with dead angelfish on my hands.

| If i remember correctly Jim said that before is 2 angels became a pair they did "lock mouths and danced", so maybe they are a pair. Anyway i'm just guessing someone will come up with an answer. Its interesting though, mine never did this. |

| I was just terrified last night to see them doing that. My rams do that sometimes but that is to show where each of their territory, so it makes sense.

| My Angel did that with Sunny RIP they paired off too. They also ruled the tank. |

| LOL, it's interesting when they do that, isn't it. Mine don't really do that anymore, but I've seen them do that a few times in the past. I never knew what that meant either. |

| Angels will lip lock especially when they are pairing up to mate. this is a basic "are you man/woman to be father/mother of the fry" I guess just a trial to make sure the prospective parent will be a strong specimen, like survival of the fitest (sp).
Weak specimen probably don't last long in the wild. as far as I know this tends to be a cichlid characteristic.

Carol | That's what I had thought but wanted to make sure first. Anyway, they have stopped doing it and seem fine now.

| And I forgot to add that Angel had the female breeding tube somewhat out and Stanley also had the male tubes(it looked like).

| The pairing off is the easy part...the hard part is getting them to keep the eggs long enough to become fry. |

| Tom, I actually don't have that much experience with Angels locking their mouths. I myself don't know exactly what it may mean, but I'd trust what Carol has said. She's been keeping Angels for a long time and has bred them a lot too, so she's probably seen the mouth-lock a lot. I only saw it for a very short while among my Angels. I now suppose it meant they were pairing off. I don't know if the mouth-lock also means aggression. |

| There's nothing yet, but they seem to be just under a year old(basing on the size of one of my angels). Since that scene, they have been sticking together more and will do everything together too.
