Re: Angel chilid tank mates?
I don't think there are many Cichlids compatible with Angelfish, except for the Rams. BUT ... the Rams should be kept with Angelfish only in a large tank with a lot of hiding places. Angelfish may still be territorial and hostile towards the Rams, as both species are Cichlids, so the Rams need a lot of room and hiding spots in case the Angels get angry.

Re: Angel chilid tank mates?
Would a 37 be big enough to hold 2 angel fish and 2-3 rams?

Re: Angel chilid tank mates?
The angels will come to 12in. dont know how big rams grow but i'll guess to around 3-4in so that will be, say 12in. It should.

I don't know of any angel that gets to be 12", they are usually about 6" at most(unless you get the long finned angels(Altum agnels)).

Ok, now I understand your logic. You just added them together. And the rams I want only grow to be 2-3" long each.

"Inch-wise" and "waste-wise" you could have 2 Angeldish and 2 - 3 Rams in a 37 gallon tank. Actually it's always best to have a ratio of 1 male to 2 females for Rams. As Carol says, "2 males will fight for territory; and 1 male + 1 female will cause the female to be harassed all the time by the male." Anyway, the reason I mentioned above that when you mix Angels and Rams it's best to have a large tank with lots of hiding spots, is that both are Cichlids and may be aggressive towards each other, especially during breeding times. Lots of space and hiding spots helps prevent/disperse the aggression. The issue here isn't really the bio-load, as you surely can have 2 Angelfish and 3 Rams in a 37 gallon tank. It's the temperaments of fish I am taking into account when talking about "could-be" aggressive fish (when breeding) such as Cichlids.
But folks ... I am usually very strict on overstocking and such ... as well as having as big a tank as possible, so I realize I may be pushy in these respects. I really don't know in this case if a 37 gallon tank is enough space for the 2 species (not in terms of bio-load, but in terms of hiding spots and the space to run away in case one species gets aggressive). I guess you could have them all in this tank, but then again ... I am not sure. If you do get them, make sure there are lots of hiding spots. Finally, I think we should better ask what Carol thinks about it. She has Rams and Angels in one tank, so she could tell us about their behaviors better. I wouldn't want to mislead anybody
P.S. I personally have 2 Angelfish in a 75 gallon tank that is far from being even moderately stocked (for now). I could have probably around 6 Angelfish in that tank if I wanted to, but the reason I have only 2 - even though I have space for many more Angels - is precisely because of Angelfish's temperaments, and not because of bio-load. Cichlids are a little different than most peaceful community fish. We need to take a fish's nature into account as well

Re: Angel chilid tank mates?
Thanks, if I go to get some rams to go with the angels I will make sure there are a binch of plants for them. That would be a little while though. I am on one of those things where your parents take all your money so you can't buy any more fish or fish supplies.

Re: Angel chilid tank mates?
In a 37 gallon tank, 2 Angelfish and a school of some small Tetras, Characins, or Cyprinids, would be perfect But Callum, you should definitely ask Carol (Butterfly) about having 2 Angelfish and 2 - 3 Rams in a 37 gallon tank. If she says it's OK, go for it Just see what she thinks.

None taken. If you have had as many insults as I have had in my life, you are used to it by now and just shrug it off.

Re: Angel chilid tank mates?
If there are lots of hiding places(caves, plants etc) , and ways the rams can get out of line of sight then they should be ok. they usually spawn on flat rocks on the substrate or dig pits. The angels will spawn on plant leaves, the sides of the tank or just about any flat surface.
Not heres the problem for Rams the foot print(size of the bottom) of the tank is as important as the height of the tank is for angels.Rams need all that room to claim territories and angels need height to accomodate their trailing fins.
So in theory they should be ok. My angels and rams were in a 30G long and did just fine.
