Re: Angelfish Tankmates

Do have fish already? if so what fish? tetras, mainly white tetras and sword tails, to my experience, can be a bad pick.

Re: Angelfish Tankmates

Well, how large is your tank? Do you have any fish in it already? When did you set it up?

Best tankmates for Angelfish are fish that are not aggressive and that won't be getting in the Angels' way. A lot of small tetras and cyprinids are all right. Which fish do you generally like? Tell us what you have in mind, and we'll see if it will be OK with your Angelfish.

Re: Angelfish Tankmates

would a small school of cardinal tetras do alright w/ 4 angels and a small pleco...for my 55-75 gal.

Re: Angelfish Tankmates

4 Angelfish are all right in a 75 gallon tank. I'm not sure about a 55 gallon tank though. How large will the Pleco be when it's adult? If it's the bigger variety, a 55 gallon tank will be too small for it. If it's small, no problems there. So what Pleco is it and how large does it grow? A school of Cardinal Tetras will be OK too in either 75 or 55 gallon tank. All this provided that your Pleco won't be too large.

If you get the 75 gallon tank and a small Pleco, then you could have 4 Angelfish and a quite large school of Cardinal Tetras - they'll look beautiful in a larger school.

Re: Angelfish Tankmates

i was thinking i would ask for a tiger pleco...or something that gets to be 5-8 in.

so the cards wouldnt nip at the angels and vice-versa?

Re: Angelfish Tankmates

I haven't heard of Cardinal Tetras nipping at Angelfish's fins. I really doubt they will. In fact, I think they're perfect tankmates

If you get 4 Angelfish and 1 Pleco that grows to be 5 - 8", then you can certainly have a beautiful school of Cardinal Tetras either in a 55 gallon or in a 75 gallon tank.

4 Angelfish = approx. 20"
1 Pleco = approx. 8"

TOTAL = 28"

In a 55 gallon tank, that leaves you with additional 27" of free space for Cardinal Tetras. You could have as many as 13 Cardinal Tetras in a 55 gallon tank. But, as always, subtract some inches for gravel and decor (they take up a few gallons of water too). So, say about 10 Cardinal Tetras?

In a 75 gallon tank, that leaves you with 47" of space left ... which means you could have as many as 23 Cardinal Tetras ... but make it 20 maybe.

P.S. I still think 4 Angelfish in a 55 gallon tank are too many. It's not because of space but because of Angelfish's temperaments.

If you're getting a larger tank anyway, why not get the 75 gallon one? It will be much much better for 4 Angelfish, believe me.

Re: Angelfish Tankmates

Oh yes, Cardinal Tetras and Angelfish both love planted tanks I forgot to mention Cardinal tetras grow to around 2". Angelfish love tall plants such as Vallisneria and wide-leaf plants such as various Swords. They may lay eggs on wide-leaf plants

Note: Read my "P.S." in the above message!

I understand Yup, this hobby can get very expensive. Well, as long as you don't overstock, you'll be fine
