Hope i am not jinxing myself

OK After many long months of waiting I finally have more wigglers. I counted atleast 50 of them. Hopefully atleast one of these will survive. This is day 2 of wiggler stage so only have 2 more to go before they free swim. Hopefully I haven't jinx myself by posting this. Usually after posting everthing disappears. Keep those fingers crossed.

Re: Hope i am not jinxing myself

Still have many wigglers. Changed 50% of water again today and pulled 4 dead eggs from jar. Hopefully they will all be free swimming tomorrow. or atleast a couple of them.. I will get a couple of pics as they get bigger right now all you can see is little eggs going in circles..

Re: Hope i am not jinxing myself

ok so here is a silly question.... All of the babies are strung together by a string like thing. Is this ok or do I need to remove it from them??

Re: Hope i am not jinxing myself

Hmm, I've never seen Angelfish eggs strung by some string. Could it be some string algae? What color is it? How thick is the string? I mean, as long as it's not fungus, you don't need to worry. If you can remove it safely, without disturbing the eggs, go for it. But if there's a chance of disturbing the eggs, I don't really know.

Re: Hope i am not jinxing myself

The string is the same color as the eggs. It is almost like a hair or something. This happened last time I had wigglers also. I am not sure what it is either. If I grab it the wigglers are on it and you have to shake them really hard to make them fall off. I don't want to hurt them so I really want to know if I have to remove it or not. Maybe someone on the angel site might know. I will ask there. If I find out will post it on here so you all know too.

Re: Hope i am not jinxing myself

OK the guys or girls on the angelfish society say that is normal. It is the stuff that they attach to the leaves or whatever with. They say you can use a turkey baster to gently blow them apart. I am so glad it isn't some algae or something.. Will keep updating this one.. tomorrow makes day 4 so they should be close to swimming...

Here is a link to the post it has a great pic of what I am talking about. Hope it works..

Re: Hope i am not jinxing myself

OK my swimmers only really swim when I change the water and stir up the tank. Otherwise they just wiggle on the bottom. Is this normal?? When do they just consistantly swim?? When do I start feeding them?? Those little suckers are hard to avoid when cleaning the tank I have to go and get a turkey baster tomorrow to see if that makes it easier to avoid them. Right now I have a smaller airhose taped to a long handle paint brush so I can direct where I want to Get the water from without it flexing on me, but I am still getting some wigglers.. Gosh this is hard to do. But fun at the same time. Well will see how they are in the morning have to go to sleep now. Will check in later

Re: Hope i am not jinxing myself

I'm so glad you've free-swimmers It's normal for them to sit at the bottom and wiggle. They're learning to swim right now. Mine did the same before they went completely free-swimming. You should start feeding them as soon as they detach from the surfave to which they were glued. At least that's when I started feeding. I don't know if they were eating it or not, but since I was changing 50% of water every single day, I had nothing to lose by feeding them.

I am also glad the string was not fungus. As long as it's not fungus, you have nothing to worry about.

Re: Hope i am not jinxing myself

Thanks for the reply. I didn't want to starve them but was unsure of when to start feeding. It makes sense I also do a 50% water change daily so I guess I will start feeding them and see what happens. Also how much air bubbles did you have in your tank?? lots of bubbles and current or barely nothing??

Re: Hope i am not jinxing myself

Well, I have one airpump connected to 2 tanks: my 10 and 30 gallon tanks. I have a small adjustment valves attached to each line leading to each tank. This way I can adjust the air flow. I don't know how to explain my airflow in my fry tank, but the airstone was positioned near the fry eggs and the flow was such that it didn't disturb the eggs but water flow was good enough at the same time. I guess you have to see. Just make sure the airstone doesn't throw the gentle free-swimmers all over the tank's walls!

Re: Hope i am not jinxing myself

Ok that is what I have. My babies are dying and I don't know why. Each day I remove like 5 -10 dead ones . I still have atleast 3 left. I hope they make it. This is so sad. I don't want them to die. I have been feeding them and removing the left over food. Changing water 50% daily. they have a heater and airstone all to themselves. What am I doing wrong here I remove the dead babies as soon as I find them. I am consistently looking in the container to check on them. My fiance thinks I am crazy cause I am always looking at them.. When do you move them into a filtered tank??

Hmm, you didn't have them in a filtered tank? I've had my fry in the filtered tank from the beginning. The downside was that I didn't have a sponge filter, but a regular Tetra Whisper filter for a 10 gallon tank. Although, I decreased the flow to low and put a stocking over the intake tube, and the babies made it But, if I were to do it again, I'd definitely do it with a sponge filter.

I am so sorry they're dying again I really don't know what's going wrong if you have 0 Ammonia, 0 Nitrite, and 0 Nitrate.

P.S. I've heard Angelfish eggs are sensitive to light within the first 48 (I think?) hours or so. Maybe that's the reason? I remember that when my eggs made it for longer than 1 day (and this was the batch that survived), my fry tank lights were off. But I really can't tell you for sure if that was the reason they survived. Dino once recommended to me staining the water with Angelfish eggs with Methylene Blue (or something like that). You'd have to ask Dino about it since I don't remember well.

Re: Hope i am not jinxing myself

OK I just lost my last angel baby .. I made it father then I ever have but still am not having getting them to grow. .Now my other angels that I bought are inbetween nickel to quarter size and the one is either bloated or has eggs. Am not sure it looked like "it" had a breeding tube out but I am not sure. What size do angel normally start showing their tubes and having eggs I put in a couple of peas just in case it is constipation. Does anyone know or have an idea??

Re: Hope i am not jinxing myself

I don't think Angels can breed until they're fully grown and mature. At least my Angels didn't breed until they became adults and mature. I'd say this is when they're around a year or more.

I am very sorry about your baby Angels But the bright side is that you'll have eggs again and so, you can try again I didn't have my eggs make it right away either.
