I have a quick question i want to put another angel in my tank with what i have in the tank already is that going to be to much? I have 2 HOB filters on my tank if that helps for more filtration.
Hello,
How are your angels that you have in the tank getting along? If they are not aggressive, you can probably add another angel to the group. But with three, two may end up being a pair and if that happens, they may end up picking on the third. I have two angels in my tank and since they get along with each other, I keep it that way.
What's the gph of the hob filters. They should be fine as long as you do your weekly water changes like poppet said, you may have to increase them to keep levels down. How long have you had your angel now, like capekate said it depends whether they will mate or not, or even get along.
If they're still small you should be OK for now. But you'll eventually have to upgrade to a bigger tank, angels get pretty big, one of mine (sparkle) is already about 5" long and over 6" tall, and he isn't full grown yet.
Your bigger problem, like capekate said, will possibly be territorial, especially if the other 2 have paired and mated. My big angel I mentioned, Sparkle, is famous for killing off other angels. He grew up with 6 other little angels, picked them off and killed off most of the others I've tried to bring into the tank. Right now there's 3 he's accepted, I don't know if they're female or what yet. This has to play out.
My point is, you might want to try just 1 angel for now. Things might be fine, but at the same time don't be too terribly surrprised if it gets beat up. It's hard to say, angels are cichlids, and they're funny like that.
i wouldn't add the angel .. it's such a potential for problems with their aggressiveness, especially if a pair is mating.. and i think the space issues would help make that worse if the angels got to feeling crowded.
I have one angel now and he gets along great with my other fish no probs at all. At first my swordtails was the domiant ones of the tank until i got my angel he put them in their place and everything is great now. I think i will just keep him or her for now and if i decide later down the road to get a bigger tank then i will think of multiples. Thanks for the advice.
Another thing is with two angels you have more stocking problems like you can't get as many fish, that's what I hate in my 29 with 2 angels, so theirs a big advantage to having just one since they get big and are big waste producers.
Hmm, now that's an interesting thought... As far as I know, angels get meaner when they pair off and begin to mate. 1 just by itself might be fine. I hadn't thought of it before, cause like atmmachine said:

It's definitly true. My tank is set up just for the angels; plus the bottom cleaning squad outnumbers them 3 to 1.
They are not friendly to new tankmates.

Ya my angels are weird though, they tolerate guppies and bettas and could care less, of couse it could be due to their old age 10 yrs but ya angels tend to get more aggressive when they are a mated pair
Nice thought, but I keep thinking of angels are cousins to oscars, and I remember my very first community tank when i bought this really cool little bug-eyed fish (not knowing what an oscar was yet). The slaughter over the next few days was brutal and amazing, and by the time I got a book on oscars it was way too late.
Anyway, my point is as much is I love my angels, especially Sparkle, I'm resigned to the fact they, again especially Sparkle, are blood thirsty little killers. Usually when no-one is looking. So far I've had oscars, firemouths, convicts, and successfully breed oscars and dempseys. Now I have angels, and now I've come to the comclusion that all amazon cichlids are the same... Mean! I figure it's the only way to share a river with paranha and survive.
