Imperator angel not eating Pls help

Hi I'm new to marine aquariums, I recently purchased an imperator angel - mature and it won't eat anything... Tried flakes, bloodworms, fresh shrimp, baby shrimps, fresh grouper, nori, fresh seaweed... and it still won't eat anything... my flagfin angel just died yesterday and i'm really worried about the imperator...

bmRboY,
Are you testing the water ?
What is you water salinity at ?
What are you using for top-off water ?

Has he been actively picking on my live rock for algae and detritus ?
A 20% water change will sometimes do the trick. Might want to try feeding some live food, even if it is brine shrimp. Out of curiosity, is your water movement high? Food flowing by can trigger an appetite. Sometime Nori seaweed sheets dipped in Kent Marine Garlic Xtreme or Vita chem stimulates feeding.

When I first put my Regal Angel fish in he didn't eat anything. It usually takes other fish to show him whats food. But the first thing he did eat was this spongefood type stuff for angels.. hold on, I'll get it from the freezer..its called "Angel Formula" for Sponge eating fish. Little cubes maroon color.

Thanks diver28 - how is your regal doing? I've heard/read lots of bad experiences with them. Super cool fish and worth setting up a tank for in and of itself.

Imperators are a real tough fish to keep heathy. In the ocean their diet consists of sponge. That's why alot of people who have
imperators, usually keep them in a full blown Reef tank with live sponge.

Mike,

My Regal is doing just fine. He looks really healthy and he eats almost everything. He still seems to dominate the tank even though I put a Powder Blue Tang in recently. I'll keep you guys updated with how it goes. I've been told all those same stories but I took the chance since I really loved his look. when i first got him he had a chunk taken out of his top fin. He's totally healed now and has a great personality.
