New Imperator Angel

Just picked up a new Imperator Angel tonight from a local fish store. The store had it miss labled as a Koran Angel and Priced it out at $29.00. I ask the sales clerk if he was sure that was the right price and he said it was. Talk about a Steal. He is awsome looking.

i just googled your new fish since i'm not familiar with it, but i recognize it now! i love the design on it and it's been on my wish list since i saw it at the LFS.

But when i googled it, i learned there were different signs of juvenile (circles) and adult (horizontal lines). does that mean juvenile turns to adult or is it just a term for a smaller fish? i really like the white circles on it.

The Juvenille turns into an adult. You have to be carefull though The imperator angel and the Koran angel look very similiar when they are Juvenilles

WOW!!! Usually you know that the LFS is overcharging you but you got one over on them!! That along with the Queen are my 2 favorite fish! So cool! Good luck with him. Once my tank is established my goal is to get a QUEEN or an EMPEROR . The 2 of them are just impressive fish!!! Did you name him yet??

Make sure you keep us up to date on your pictures. I would love to see what he looks like as he makes the transformation. How long do you think it will take??

Well the angel appears to be much more at home now in his new tank. Yesterday he pretty much stayed hidden behind some rocks and as of right now he is doing laps around the tank. I wish I had a video camera to record this. it is quite funny. He takes the same route every time.

Great Fish

I have one myself and he has been great. I have had mine for about 8 months now and his circle are now straightening out. He has become the bully in the tank, but not too bad. He will will grunt and let the other fish know when it is time to move, and let me know when he is ready to eat. It is the coolest thing. It took me a good month to figure out what that noise was, but it was him. Ofcorse, I am out of town and do not have any pics on me, but I will try and get some up in the next couple of days so you can see the beginning of the transformation. But, I have heard that there is not any guarantee that they will transform in captivity. Beautifull fish either way.

With my luck I would have one for years and it would never change. Or if it finally started to change after more than a year, it would probably die in me. Haha. Went to my LFS yesterday and had them put a look out for a Queen. Cant wait to get one!! Cant wait to see your pictures!

He is all of 6 inches long, proboably close to eight and has been in my tank for 7 months. I am figuring somwhere bwtween 9-12 months. When I first got him, he looked like a bulleye, all circled. I tell you one thing the picture does not do justice, and that is how thick he is now.
Sal, be carefull on mixing Angels. I let my LFS convence me to try a French Angel (i love Angels in gerneral) and my Emporer went nuts. There is a very obvious difference between him being a bully and out for blood. That poor French Angel had to go back to the store. I got him out before too much harm, but I was pretty upset. So I don't think I will ever risk another Angel. Atleast not in my 90 gallon,

I hear you on that!! I love the 2 of them but I am just going to go with the Queen. It was the 14 inch Queen at the LFS that turned me on to salt and made me break down my fresh. They are such beautiful critters. What about a dwarf? I was told that you can do a large and a dwarf angel together that is as long as the tank is big enough. Have you had any luck or input with that??

Every fish is different. The best method is to see if your LFS has both have them put them in 2 different tanks right next to each and see how they act towards each other. If that tests out ok you can try them at home, just keep an eye on them. Also if you have a large tank that will defently help.

You can do Dwarf

I have a Flame I put in the tank probably 3 months ago. It was well after my Emporer had established himself King of the tank. He chased the Flame away while eating for the first month or so. But after the Flame realizes the pecking order on feeding and stayed off to the side, I have not had any issue. It is all a dominance thing. As far as mixing, I will never try it again. When I put the Frnech Angel in, everything was fine until I fed the fish (probably 2 hours later). Then it was like the light bulb came on and my Emporer snapped. I had the French Angel in a plastic bowl with holes poked in it to get through the night and my Emporer was secking at the bowl all night. I am content with the Flame and Emprorer. If everything goes good, next year I will get at least a 200 gollon tank, then I may try it again. We shall see

The tank size does help. The larger tank will give the angels more room apart and give you a better chance at a peacefull co-existance.
