Last Thursday night, at the conclusion of cleaning my aquarium, I could no longer find my coral beauty angel. I found it Saturday morning, stuck deep within a large piece of dead coral. I used pliers to break the coral away and when the fish was finally freed, I noticed it was in very bad shape. It's fins had deteriorated, the body was swollen from the way it was wedged, and it was breathing hard. I netted it and put it in the QT with Melafix. It died a few hours later. Has anyone heard of a problem like this? I was told by my LFS that this has been known to happen when the fish is scared.

I spent a lot of time nurturing this fish to good health from an infected wound when I first got it, and now this...

What bothers me the most is that I wish I had spent the time to locate it when I couldn't find it Thursday. I thought it was hiding from my activity in the tank which is why I didn't pursue it, as I never thought they could get stuck. What amazed me even more is the rate of deterioration in just 1.5 days. Is keeping the coral a bad idea?

My blue regal tang gets stuck in the live rock from time to time. Though she alway seems to wiggle free. It's the fact that when she gets scared, she will swim 100 mph to get away.

What type of coral did you fish get stuck on ?

It reminds me of staghorn but the branches are thicker and denser. She was approximately 3 inches in and all I could see was a hint of her blue color.

I've had tank jumpers, but nothing like this. Sorry to hear that.
