Just a General Question

Let's start by saying that I'm not naive enough to go out and buy a sea anemone for starters since I'm only starting to get into the marine aquarium hobby. However, eventually I will want one (probably years later) but one thing about them confuses me. Everywhere I go online, the average life span of an anemone in an aquarium is either in the months or less than 2 years. Is this true and if it is, why? Currently, I'm guessing that the anemone is dying from the day you buy it. I really would hate to spen dthat much money on an organism that will perish so quickly.

Thanks.

Re: Just a General Question

I don't think they (marine biologists) really know how long anemones life spans are or could be in a controlled environment. From my research in the past, they can live for tens if not hundreds of years. There are many species available to hobbyists, but only a handful that are thought to be keepable. Most require intense lighting (symbiotic zooxanthellae) and supplemental feedings.
