plants for a Chinese fire belly newt tank.

Hello, I was wondering what plants would be good for the tank. I have a bamboo plant that is perfect! He climbs up the bamboo and sits on the dead stalk or leaves. I was wondering what would be some good plants that would NOT have to be totally submerged and he could climb on. I mean the leaves would grow out of the water and not lay on the top of the water. Thanks a lot!

Bamboos are good enough. How big is the tank? You could get more bamboos if room lets you. You could try some floating plants as well... I forgot the names though.

I have a chinese (I'm 99% sure) fire bellied newt who has got to be 16 years old now... so I guess I must be doing something right! I rescued him as an unwanted pet at the start (around 6 years ago) and they thought he was around 10 years old back then.I have lots of Elodea crispa in the tank for him to climb over (this stays submerged) and helps oxygenate the water. Every so often I buy a small Peace Lily and plant that in the shallows so the base is submerged but the main plant is out of the water. It looks good and my newt seems to like it. I say "every now and then" because they tend to grow really quickly in this environment and I end up taking them out and potting them up as 'normal' houseplants after a while. I have tried lots of different 'fancy' plants but I have a handful of snails as companions for my newt (which must have come in on a plant years ago) and, several generations down the line now, I haven't got the heart to destroy them but I'm also not paying out for expensive plants just for them to eat!! Hope that helps.
