chinese fire belly newt coloring?

Yesterday he shed his skin. Today he was sitting on some bamboo leaves out of the water. Well, anyways he is now in the water and has a gray metallic color?! Why is it like this? Thanks!

Hi fbn.

I've had these cute lil' guys before but have never had them for long. The gray metallic color could be because of dry skin? I'm not too sure. A picture would help

They shed their skin fairly regularly and their 'new' skin should be in really good condition - nice and dark and shiny. The 'shed' would appear a greyish colour. Are you sure it's all come free? The only other thing I can think of is air bubbles. I know that sounds mad but if they've been out of the water for a long while and then submerge themselves, they often get a layer of tiny air bubbles on their skin - which could be misleading.... Is your newt normally quite dark in colour?
