Any tips on helping to feed the lil guy till then.. also what is a typical diet of these frogs just bloodworm or will sinking pellets be beneficial, if so how best to keep them away from my fish! Thanks in advance |

| Hi, I moved your thread into the amphibians section of the forum.
Here's our African Dwarf Frog Care Guide
One of problems with ADF's in a community tank is making sure eat. It's one of the reasons I prefer a species only tank for ADF's.
What kind and how many fish are in there?
As you found out, the fish are faster. Even if you drop a blood worm right to them, there's no gaurentee they'll eat it right away. I've dropped blood worms in only to have them land on their snout. The silly things will sit there with blood worms on them.
I've heard of people making feeding stations for them I think there's a video on youtube about it.
I feed mine mostly thawed frozen blood worms. A couple days a week I'll give them HBH Frog and Tadpole Bites.
Best of luck with him. I enjoy mine very much. |

| thanks lucy, well i've heard they can scavenge a but as well so just hope i keep on top of him eating wise and that he can get bits from the bottom. If he is hungry enough he'll surely eat when there in front of him. So i might just do that once every 2 days hoping he'll scavenge the other days, as well as the sinking pellets. fingers crossed i love him! what do you think of freeze dried bloodworms? Because i have the frozen bloodworms that i can thaw out as well the only problem being i have one frog and theres LOADS of bloodworms in a cube he only needs 3 or so! any tips |

| Scavenge what? Fish flakes aren't going to give your frog the nutritional value he needs.
Their eye sight isn't all that great. Even when I drop worms right to mine, they float right past while the frogs try to lunge for them. Most times they miss and have to find them later. If you're not careful, they can starve.
Freeze dried blood worms can cause bloat. You can use a razor and slice off some worms off the cube for him. |

| A great way to make sure your ADF is bulking up is a couple times a week give him his own private feeding in a tuberware container filled 1.5" with tank water. He gets to feast and you don't have to worry. My frogs have gotten so used to it that when they see me dip the tuperware into the tank to add water to it...they swim right up to it! |

| Hi eyesofgreen
Welcome to FishLore
That sounds like a good idea. Do you take the tupperware out of the tank?
Make sure they don't jump! |

| sometimes what i do (although this may not be the best), is sometimes i'd add a little more food then what is required... i know its a waist, and requires more water changes, but the excess food goes to the bottom and the frogs get a chance at it...
how long have you had your tank set up? mines been going for a few months, and the fish kind of have their area where they like to hang, and the frogs have their own spot... so i place food for fish in their spot, and for the frogs in their spot, i hope this helps... |

| I've been hand feeding mine with mostly fish flakes and freeze dried Bloodworms. Once in a while those small round pellets that came with them.
So what's the best food for them? I thought Bloodworms are not good as a main staple. |

Here's our Care Sheet For African Dwarf Frogs
Freeze dried foods can cause bloat. Fakes don't give them the nutrition they need.
I feed mine mainly thawed frozen blood worms and the occasional frog and tadpole bite. |

| Lucy, would presoaking the freeze-dried bloodworms help with the bloat? Or not so much with frogs? |

| I've read a few people say that to stop other fish from stealing the bloodworms, they used an overturned/slightly propped up bowl so the frogs can get in, and someone somewhere said they used a small bottle with the food inside-though I don't know what kind of bottle.
I've been giving this some thought, I haven't gotten my ADF's yet. I might try to make some sort of container to put the food in that the frogs can get into easily that the fish can't. It'll take some experimenting but I'm sure it would be useful for the frogs to associate some kind of container with food.
I was thinking maybe a shallow deli type cup with a half circle cut off the top ledge (melt the cut edge to make sure it isn't sharp)..put the lid on, food inside, and sink it to the bottom with the lid side down? |

| care for ADF Hello! Please help out with advice how to feed ADF. We just got two 2 days ago, they seem to be OK getting used to new place. But I cannot feed them! I even tried to put a little ceramic dish in the tank this morning, but my little ones can't seem to figure out what is it and why it's in there. I do not want them to starve. Please help! Thank you! |

| rogacha, what are you feeding them? my ADF's seem to find frozen (thawed) bloodworms the best. I also give them HBH frog and tadpole bites and those take them longer to find, but sure enough if I come back in an hour, it's all gone.
When I feed the bloodworms, I have the best luck if I drop each worm in individually in front of the frogs, within an inch of them. They snatch at them right away. Sometimes they'll turn the wrong way right as the worm falls to them, though, but they'll find it eventually. From my understanding, they find moving foods the easiest, which is probably why dropping the worms in front of them works as well as it does. |
