ADF in trouble

I know, I know, problem after problem. I'm beginning to wonder why we have fish, and how we still have live ones. ._.

Okay, so, we got 2 african dwarf frogs and 2 blue gouramis to add to our barbs and tetras. Everything was fine and everybody got along, then one frog died and it all went south from there.

The surviving frog was getting picked on by all 5 bigger fish. They nipped at him and were dragging him under the water when he was trying to float. He tried to climb out of the tank a few times.

My mom's convinced he's going to die and we can't help him, so I'm sort of on my own with this. I set up a jar with an air pump and got him out into the betta fish's betta bowl, filled with water from the aquarium. (He's moving on his own and seems to be fine, but I'm far from an expert... obviously.) I got a jar set up with an air pump, so I'm just waiting until the water he's in cools down to room temperature since I can't fit the heater in there with the pump.

It's about a one or 1.5 gallon jar, it isn't horribly small, but the opening won't fit both. SO, this isn't a permanant solution, and he obviously can't go back in with the hateful barbs, who just can't leave anyone alone. ("peaceful community fish" I'm getting a good laugh at that now...)

I can't afford to buy him a tank right now, so I'm wondering if he'll get along with the betta if I put them together for a days or weeks, until I can get him his own? (Sorry, I can't be really clear on times since my mom won't talk about him. She says he'll die in an hour or two anyway. The negativity isn't helping...)

Or anything else I can try. I just really, really have no clue about what to do.

IMO you should probably return the gouramis, they will get much too large for a 10 gallon tank. i wouldn't put the ADF with the betta at this point if the betta is in the one gallon bowl in your aquarium info.

i would put the heater in the jar instead of the air pump and just do daily 50% water changes in the jar with prime or stress coat + until you can come up with a plan for what to do with him, the heater will be more helpful than the air pump in this case (unless you've got the air pump attached to a small filter)

lucy is the ADF expert around here and should be able to give you more specific info on how to help your little guy, i'm sorry he's not doing well

Poor little guy. I'm glad you moved fast.
If the betta is still in the 1g. That's not enough room for the betta let alone the ADF.
If you've moved the Betta to a larger tank, there's a possibility that they'll be ok. It depends on the temperament of the Betta.
He really needs to be kept warm and the water pristine if there's any injuries. You can try to wrap a towel or something around the jar, that should keep some heat from the tank water.
Do you know how the other ADF died?

Edit: I agree with Alex, the heater would be better than the air pump. Your ADF will breath air from the top.
Make sure it has a lid that air can get in. Otherwise, he'll be able to get out.
Another possiblity is a clean storage container.

I'll put the heater in and hopefully get him in the jar tonight.
I can't see any injuries, he could be a lot worse than he is already. One of the webs on one of his feet is torn, and his bottom and legs are a little red, but he isn't bleeding and, again, he's moving.
I don't know how the other frog died. My mom was cleaning the tank and she doesn't know if she accidantally hit him with something. But the morning after the cleaning he was floating dead on the top.

Edit:
Alright, now I'm just waiting for the water to heat up a little bit.

Hopefully he'll heal up with nice warm clean water. Keep your eye on him. If the red legs aren't from being picked on it could be an infection.
What are the readings of the tank he was in?

We still don't have a tank testing kit. Because we're doing so well with fish already. ._.

The temperature was 75ish and the readings were fine... 2 or 3 days ago when the pet store tested a water sample. Not that I can trust them as far as I can throw them. And that isn't far at all.
I'm guessing our ammonia is probably a little high, it usually is, and I've been a little concerned before this since their skin absorbing thing makes them so sensitive...

Keep your eye on the redness. ADF's can get what's called Red Leg. It's a bacterial infection often caused by poor water conditions.

He was dead when I looked this morning... But at least he died peacefully instead of getting picked at, right?

I'm really sorry you lost the little guy.
Yeah, it was better than getting picked at.
