chytrid fungus everywhere??

As I started researching tree frogs for the first few times I have found that there is an issue w/ them having this as well? There have been a bunch already treated for it? Is that possible to do this?

I have picked out my "frog" Its a Waxy Monkey Frog, well I am going to get 2 when I get them, they are so cute! But I am going to do a ton! of research first after reading about this fungus being an issue w/ the frogs. I would hate to buy these guys/gals and them already be sick.

It's effecting all amphibians, you're smart to get 2 at the same time, otherwise, you'd be looking at quarantining a new one for two months. That's what I'm doing with my ADF's.

In my sticky about the fungus, there's an attachment for treatment using Lamisil that's shown great promise in getting rid of the virus in ADF's.
I had been advised it's safe to give the treatment even if ADF's aren't showing symptoms as a precautionary measure.

I don't know if it would be the same dosage for Waxy Monkey Frogs.

You can go to http://www.thefrog.org/
Steve Busch and his herpetologist were the ones I originally contacted about the fungus. They were able to five me the proper dosage for ADF's.
Perhaps you can find some information there.

Good luck and post pics!

As Lucy said, this stuff is killing off all sorts of amphibians. Scientists are concerned that they may have killed off some very rare types of amphibians by accidentally bringing spores on their clothing (which they thought had been sterilized) to their habitats.

One concern I would have about prophylactic treatment is that it will also kill off all beneficial flora (the fungus that normally lives on frog skin). There is also the possibility of fungicide-resistant fungus growing out of this kind of treatment.

I'm not saying "don't do it." You've got to weigh the risks for yourself. I think I might actually do it, if I were getting a frog.

If you do this, pay close attention during the following weeks. A secondary fungal infection or an explosion of the normal skin-based bacteria could become a problem, though not as bad as chytrid fungus.

It was noted that the frogs (Talking ADF's here) shedded several times during their precautionary treatment.
Your point is a valid one, SDS.

I've opted not to do precautionary treatment on the newer frog.
Why put him through that if I'm not positive he's infected.

To me it's kind of like taking antibiotics because you might be sick, not because you are.
If he shows symptoms, I'll definetly do it, it would be deadly to the frog not to try it.

Angela, If I were you, I'd find out if the symptoms are the same with your type frog so you know what to look for and keep a close eye on them.

I have researched more on the "monkey frog" I think I am going to go w/ the white frog, but all the same a frog is at risk no matter what type.

I will def be asking a ton of questions where I buy it to make sure the place is knowledgeable about the fungus and whether or not they have been treated, and if there is a precautionary treatment for my frogs, most of these frogs have a long captivity life just like my cichlids and plecos (thats why I love the pets I have I have a long commitment w/ them) so I want to make sure that my frogs are healthy and will live a long life. I would hate to get attached to a pet or my kids and loose them! Or on the other spectrum I have Patch which is wild caught and in this area not at risk for the fungus so I don't want to get him sick as well.
