| New Apisto...somethings I've just returned with my latest breeding project, except I'm not entirely sure what they are! They're definatly Apistos of some type, I just don't know which ones. I bought a male and two females, and they're going into one of the 40gals, which should be plenty big enough for the two females to establish a territory each. Any help in identifying would be appreciated. Not the best photo sorry, I'll try for a better one once tehy're in the tank. |

| No they're not Borellis, although they look quite similar. I have some Borellis already. That would have been my guess if I didn't already keep Borellis though! |

| Nice pick up Nick. I am no good with id's on Apisto's but found a pretty good link that may help you out. Scroll down a little and it list quite a few species. I have looked here and a few other places for about 20 minutes and cant figure it out but will keep trying. http://www.thekrib.com/Apisto/

| Great Link B, thanks. They were being sold as Agazzis, but I know they not. |

| Ok, the smaller of the two females has taken on a sort of yellowish-gold coloration, and has taken up residence in one of the caves with the male. She keeps dancing in front of him which is similar behavior to my Kribs before they spawn. She doesn't really look like the male or other female anymore? But the male is only showing her attention, he's totally ignoring the other female. I'm even more confused as to what species they are now. |

| looks like agassizzii cichlid to me. the horizontal line and the blue lined face resembles that of an agassizzii. once they become unstressed and comfortable, they'll be beautiful |

| Many species of apistos have some blue coloration and a horizontal stripe. These do not look like agassizii to me.
The gold coloration is the female getting into breeding colors. Many species of apistos do this as well. My female a. steindachneri used to turn bright yellow and a black slash would appear through her eye when she was ready to breed. |

| It looks like they could be Apisto. Pebas. May have to wait til they settle in. Are not Borelli or agassiz.
Most the apsito females get yellowish at the least.
He has a dark horizonal stripe that decreases in width to the tail and appears to have a vertical dark spot or band at the base of his tail. The nice blue flecks are a Pebas trait also.
There are a few similar species but I know A. Pebas has been available for a while.
Just a guess for now!! |
