| | Fish Keeper | Blue Acara Rescue. I posted a few days ago about sexing my Acara, turns out that she's a girl. Someone in town was advertising a male so I went to have a look, he had 2 males, a great looking specimen who looked totally different to my Acara,(way longer finnage), so I'm assuming mine is a girl. The other was this very sorry looking guy who has been beaten up pretty badly by the dominant male, so since I've just freed up some room in the Acara's tank I thought he'd make the perfect replacement. Here he is getting acclimated to his new home, and introduced to his new girlfriend, who to be honest, doesn't seem very impressed by him. I might have to remove her until he puts some weight on and recovers a bit, but we'll see how they go! |

| | Fish Keeper | Well, I released him, they swam around together for about 2 minutes and then started to fight. I expected her to absoloutly hammer him, since he's in such bad shape, but he's standing up for himself, which is a good sign. I'll see how he goes tonight, and if she won't leave him alone then I'll remove her for a few days to give him a chance to stamp some authoroty own his new territory! |

| | Fish Keeper | Good for you on the rescue. Maybe your female is a bit picky about her mate and he might not look quite good enough to her yet. Just get him healthy and she might change her mind. LOL Congrats on your new babies. |

| | Fish Keeper | Yeah, thats usually the trouble with female Cichlids. I'm going to try a decor rearrange first, and put in a few more caves, so they can get away from each other, see if that helps. |

| | Fish Keeper | That is the way it goes around here too. I have dividers that I can put in some of my tanks just in case they have a marital spat...which has been going on a lot lately for some reason. Then sometimes I have to get one of them completely out of the tank or it is really going to get bad. Very pretty fish by the way. |

| | Fish Keeper | Thanks, she looks great considering the beating that the Jewels and Convict gave her when she was in the 90gal. I've just removed all the decor, done the weekly waterchange and clean, and removed her to a chilly bin for now. She can return once she learns to behave! |

| | Fish Keeper | Good luck with that learning to behave thing let me know how it works out for you since it has not worked out here at all yet. We have fishy time out around here some times and I think it just gives them time to plot a new attack on the other fish. |

| | Moderator | Hello Nick. Congrats on the new addition. I'm sure you'll nurse him back to good health.
Your plans sound great to get the pair acclimated together.
Best of luck and keep us informed please. Beautiful fish!

| | Fish Keeper | Well, their all back in together with the decor totally changed around. No-one seems to know where they're supposed to be! The funny thing is that I have 2 Cichlid tanks, one is the AGGRESSIVE 90gal, with the Oscar, Dempsey, Con, Jewels...........all the nasty guys, and they get along fine. The other has the supposed "mild" Cichlids, Acaras, Kribs and Angels, and they spend most of the time fighting and bickering. They're far worse than the supposed mean guys! |

| | Fish Master | Congratulations on the rescue, Nick! Hopefully things will settle down and she'll accept her new man in time. |

| | Fish Keeper | Well the new Male has settled in well. He's eating properly and is slowly regaining a bit of colour. My female seems to have accepted thats he's the best that she's going to get too, and they've formed a bit of a partnership, spending about 80% of their time together. The next step will hopefully be some wigglers, although that could take a while! |

| | Fish Bum | I had a blue acara pair. They spawned 8 times with in 7 months. Every time the female would turn on the me and beat him up. They would fight once the eggs hatched. It drove me crazy so I have split them up for good this time. I'm looking to sell my 4" female.
I hope yours get along better then Mine. They had a love hate thing going on. Sad really. I got 3 of them when they were 1.5" let them pair up and raised them. Or well. |
