I have 2 freshwater tanks (30 and 10 gal) that are obviously too small for cichlids. I can get a tall 45 gal tall tank at a good price but wasn't sure if that's big enough for a cichlid tank. It's 30" tall, 20" wide, 18" deep. Any advice? Would I be better getting a standard 55 gal tank?

Hi rwc..it depends on what kind of cichlids...angels would love that tank, but africans like the longer type...do you know what you want?

I'm thinking about some rams and cichlids that only get 3-4.5".

Dwarf cichlids are great for smaller tanks, apisto's and west africans.
The rams you have to be careful about they need a mature cycled tank.
