| Accepting Free Fish I'm new here so I hope you will bear with me.
I have a 55 gal tank with a bunch of Tetras, a Pleco, and two Angelfish. I've wanted to add more and now I've got a chance to pick up a 9" Jack Dempsey, another cichlid 3-4", electric yellow, and another large Pleco. These are all free.
I'm considering putting my Tetras in a 20 long I've just set up and taking these others. Would this be a good or bad idea? My 55 gal tank has amazon sword plants and has been doing pretty well lately.
What do you think? Am I nuts? I've been planning to try to breed the Angels but if I get these new fish I won't.
Suggestions?

| 2 plecs in a 55 gal will way overload you...and the african cichlid aka electric yellow, cant go in with the rest as they are a species only kinda fish...but otherwise, you would be ok depending on what that 3-4 inch cichlid is |

| Im with shawnie there, african cichlids like hard alakaline water where as jack dempseys like softer more acidic water |

| So, you're saying that the Angels and the Jack Dempsey and the African cichlid shouldn't be together? Aren't they all cichlids?
Oh, and I won't put both plecos together... although I don't know where I'll put them! |

| jacks and angels are SA cichlids where as the yellow is an african cichlid..if you google each, you can see they arent compatable in the same tank |

| They shouldn't be together because the electric yellow needs hard, alkaline water and the angels need soft water. The Jack Dempsey and the electric yellow might eat or injure your other fish, as they are aggressive, solitary fish. |

| In a 55 gal. I would keep the JD by itself, they are large, aggressive fish.
I also agree, africans should be kept in a species tank only. |

| i wouldn't add those fish to your tank, IMO just one JD has enough waste to be kept in a 55 as a single. the african cichlids will probably terrorize everyone but the JD, and they all have different water requirements. |

| Try to take what you can't keep to your LFS as a trade in for store credit. They're usually more than happy to relieve you of fish. |
