Gold or Green Severum cought my eye questions

So I am still planing my next tank and the only thing i have is a lovely piece of drift wood. My plans are a 29 gallon with a sand bottom and lots of plants. I getting a Rena FilStar External Canister Filters xP2 filter which is rated for a 75 gallon tank so no worries there.

I was shopping online and say that the Severum chichlids was personable. So i have several questions.
Are they ok to be by themselves or do i need to get a pair?
Will it destroy my plants?
Will it eat my shrimp?
Will it get along with Kuhlii Loachs?

any comments would be great!

I"ve had gold Severums. They are stunningly beautiful, have lovely personalities and do not dig or destroy plants. Yes, they will eat your shrimp and anything else that can fit in their mouths, but should be okay with khulis until they get very large, which they will. They are on the vegetarian side of omnivorous, but certainly like their worms.

BUT - you cannot keep even one Severum in a 29 gal tank. To keep two, you'll need 55 galllons minimum. Personally, I would get a much bigger tall tank. Severums can grow up to 10 inches long and need lots of room. They are laterally compressed like angelfish, but can be 6" from top to bottom. A small tank will cause stunting and early death.

So you either need to get a much larger tank, or stick with small fish as there are no large fish you can keep in that tank.

Ok thats sad the site said they only get to be 8 inches but then another one said they get to be 11. o well there out.
do you know of any other fish with a personality i can keep? there is just no room for a bigger tank in the apartment i am moving into so 29 is what I'm set on.

You could keep one angelfish in that tank, with maybe 5 - 7 larger Rasboras like Harlequins OR 5 Bleeding Heart tetras, since they are fairly peaceful unlike many other tetras who nip fins. OR you could put 5 corydoras.

You'll need lots of taller plants (silk is okay if you don't want real) and you could put a Bristlenose pleco to take care of algae. For this, you'll need to put some driftwood as well!

All that would make for a pretty tank.

ETA: I see you already have the driftwood!
