It won't hurt the fish. If I recall correctly, mollies will even nibble on some kinds of algae. If it's a glass tank, you can buy a scraper (or use an unsoaped, plastic sponge) to scrub the algae away.

How much are you feeding, and does the tank get any direct sunlight?

Good morning,

I have moved your thread to the Aquarium Water/Algae section of the forum.

Here is a link that you may find helpful concerning algae control:

You can search the site for green spot algae (GSA) and see what you come up with. I think a regular scraper won't do it (and would scratch a plastic tank). I think you would need a credit card or razor blade to get the algae off of the surface. I'm not sure how you would do this with a plastic tank without damaging the tank.

I managed to get it off by getting a fish nets material and sliding around the glass.
Missed a few spots though,

You can knock out GSA with one of those plastic dish scrubbies. Or a dish sponge, just make for certain that there is NO soap in them at all. I only buy them new and keep them for aquarium use only.

Scrub a test area that is not too obvious to make sure that the material doesn't scratch and then go for it. You should be okay with most soft plastic scrubbers though.
