That's what I get for ignoring it and hoping it'll go away...

Well I've been having a few algae issues in 2 of my betta tanks (both have soil under gravel for a substrate). Typically my main alage head-ache is string alage but that's defiantly not what this stuff is. I think it's blue-green slime algae...

Below are pics from the 5 gal... I attach the 10 gal images in a 2nd post.

Based on those pictures, I'd say you're correct.

Sirdarksol wrote an article on cyanobacteria, and I discussed a few possible cures last year (Can anyone ID this algae?), but those don't always seem to work for everyone. There's also a product called Blue-Green Algae Remover that is supposed to be fairly effective (BGA algea) if the normal cures don't work.

Shawnie: The 5 gal just has a single 9W bulb and the 10 just a cheap tube from wally (14W)
Mathas: Thanks for the links I'll start cleaning the tanks out then up the WC's. To start with.

Red, if i remember correctly on the video you posted a while ago it showed your tanks and their racks. I remember your tanks were near a window Could it be that they got too much sunlight? On the first pic it looks like you have diatoms at the bottom

How much are you feeding? How many WCs per week? Could very well be a nutrients overload.

Thanks everyone.
Slug: Those tanks typically get blood worms once a day (depends when I'm home and homework if they get fed before the lights go out) and WC's every friday.
Tony: Only the 5 gal is really across from the windows and that's only since I've moved it. I'll try to get a video this weekend of how much light is in my apartment in the afternoon (west faceing windows).

I hate using chems but the only way I got rid of BG for good was using Sea Chems Blue-Green Algea Killer little bottle of pink powder killed it in a day and didn't hurt one of my live plants and even killed the Algea on them.
