White fuzz on plants and decor

We've got a 29 gallon tank. It's been running for about four weeks and we've had about four weeks. We had a bad run of some sort of parasite and lost all but our angel fish and shortly after the water went cloudy and within a matter of a couple of hours we had a white film all over the glass and plants (they are fake). We took the angel fish out and drained and cleaned everything in the tank and refilled it. It ran for about twenty hours and then the same thing happened. We didn't clean or change the gravel so I'm thinking maybe that was the problem. The fish seems to be fine and all the levels are normal, pH is a little high (about 7.5) but we are basically re-establishing the tank. Not sure exactly what everything else is as I used my last test strip and need to get some more. I will try and attach a picture if I can figure out how.

Welcome to fishlore.
It is hard to tell what could be wrong in your aquarium. Is there any way you could post a picture of what the white fuzz looks like? it would make it easier for members to tell what could be wrong..

Never mind my other entry the pictures changed it completely, it looks like white hair algae. How many times a day do you feed your fish? How long do you keep your tank lights on?

We did treat for ick because that's what the problem was initially. This started after we had cured whatever was in there. It appeared right after we did a water change and somebody had said it might be bacteria growth because of how young the tank was, that just seemed like a lot to me.

Hello Chrisandekelly. Welcome to Fish Lore! Agreed. It looks to me to be white hair algae. It will eventually go away once it has run it course. You can wipe it off the ornaments and a gravel vacuum will help as well. Don't be surprised if it returns. As your tank ages will help also.

We have the light on for about six hours total a day and we try to turn it on and off at the same time. So is there anything really that can be done or is it something that this tank will have to deal with and maybe just work on reducing the amount?

To be honest I really don't know. All I can do is hope for the best for you.

Morning 10g. It's been my experience that it just has to run its course. Once it does, it will be rare that you ever see it again. Very common in new tanks.
