White dots on heater and plants

Hi guys! I have this funny looking white dot stuff in my tank all of a sudden. I'm not sure if it is algae though. It's mostly on my heater and on the plants in the tank.

the tank I'm talking about is the brackish water tank with my green spotted puffer.

there is not allot of salt in the water as I'm slowly adding the salt to make sure it's not a shock to him (he was kept in fresh water at the fish store)

I do water changes every week (20 - 25%) and I feed him bloodworms and meal worms.

Can any of you identify this of do any of you have any idea what this could be?

Here are some pics. It's not very clear... just look for white dots... on the heater and on the plants.

I'm not quite sure what the dots are, but you need to start feeding your puffer snails. They need to crunch through the shells to file their beaks down. Its sort of like beavers chopping down trees to trim their teeth. Otherwise you'll have to manually trim the fishies beaks by using anesthetic that will eventually kill your fish. Eek!

Oh yeah I'm aware of that. I have snails that I give him but don't have any right now... so that is sorted. I'm just wondering what the whit stuff is.

Does it kind of sway with the water?
If so, I have that in my goldie tank, too.
I think it is a form of algae.
Whatever it is, it is harmless. My goldies are fine with it. I just clean it off when I clean the tank.

Yeah it seems harmless. I just wonder where it came from - i have never seen it before. I'll just try and remove some by wiping it off with my hand. I was just wondering if I had to got through the whole process of closing the tank to keep it dark for a few days to kill it.
So if you all feel that I don't have to do that then I'll just wipe it off the heater and rinse the plants or something.

If they were bubbles they would pop pretty fast after isis touched them, so I doubt that. I see no reason to cover up the tank, as long as your fish don't seem to care.

I'll that tomorrow when I get home... if it grows back then I'll make some other plan. My puffer seems fine - not bothered at all - well then again as long as he can eat he is happy - little piggy! LOL!

do they move around, swim? Get a magnifying glass to get a closer look. It could be a colony of daphnia (water fleas) that is good for the fish to eat. If it is daphnia, you can get them to move to the substrate by adding more aeration.

There's a plethora of organisms that live in the substrate, and filters. When there isn't enough oxygen in the water, they will surface and spread out.If you increase the oxygen, then they will disappear (but still be there) re-colonizing the substrate and filter media.

Or it could be micro bubbles, they too will go away.
