Bad Water

Hey everybody!

I seem to be having a problem with my 3ft tank water, I am doing weekly water changes but the water gets dirty really fast. Once I have done my water change, within 3 days the water has gone brown and their is brown fluffy stuff groing behind my filter. This stuff grows really fast cause when I change the water I do maintanance on my filter as well.

Can anyone tell me why this is happening and what can I do to fix this.

I have the same problem in my ten gallon but it's not growing as fast, and I don't have brown water.

I am 99.99% Sure it is a species of algae that is causing your water to get dirty and is what is growning behind your filter.

Hope That Helps

Yeah shawnie is right. Maybe some driftwood or some Limestone would help. Have you tested your water lately because if u have what was the pH

Hey guys thanks for all the advice. I did have drift wood in my tank but I removed it cause I thought that maybe that would be the cause of the water going brown. I have rocks in the tank but not sure what type. My PH level is 7.2

Drift wood, if not soaked/boiled long enough can leech tannins into the tank making your water dark for months.
From what I've read, this should go away in a few weeks. Some members prefer the natrual look of the brownish water.
