looks a bit like diatoms to me..the "new tank" brownish algae...its harmless and more of an eye sore if thats what it is...some fish love to eat it also...my cories devour it ....

Is there a way to get rid of this and keep it gone? I have never had the brown algae in my tank before. I wasnt sure what it was until I searched and seen this thread.

I use the same lighting that I have for the last 4 years. Havent changed anything about the tank except for the type of fiash I have now.

If the flourescent bulbs are old (older than 6 to 12 months old) then that could be the problem... they lose their spectrum after a while, and will put out lighting that promotes algae.

Oh that may be what it is then. They are about a year old. I will try changing them and see if it helps.

Thanks
