Algae/Bettas

Here is the problem. I have two 2.5g tanks that I just moved away from a very sunny site that was having a ton of algae... Betta in each tank. I also have a 10g divided tank that is having algae problems... filters on each side. Nitrate 10, 0 amm. and nitrite., on all tanks. Question, would/could 1 otto do ok with a Betta? And would 1 be enough to take care of the algae? Thanks

otos or cories would be good-- either should be fine with a betta. the 2.5 gallons are too small though to add more fish so i think for those i would just clean them out good and put them somewhere where they won't get so much sunlight. and i think cories and otos are supposed to be kept in groups but i'm not too positive how it will affect them if they are not. either google that, or maybe someone who knows more will answer.

Thanks for answering. I was thinking it would add too much to the 2.5g's. I have to do some severe rearanging(sp?) to move the 10g. I have four otos in my big tank,,, but have never tried just one. Hope someone knows how that would work!!! Thanks again.

I'm not sure that I'd try just 1 oto by himself. They're not too hardy to begin with usually.

I have a 5g with one betta and one oto, and a divided 10g with the same setup on each side. Otos should be in groups, but they add to the bio load fairly significantly so I've only kept 1 per 5g. Every now and again I have an oto disappear, and I've fed them algae wafers but have never seen them eat any of it even when their little tummies appear too small. For the most part they do just fine.

Otos are very non-confrontational, and the bettas don't pay them much attention. Sometimes Bo will begin to stalk his oto, but it often seems to be more of a bid for my attention because i always come over and shoo him away, and he dances for me to play with him!
