Algea Growth?

Hello Everyone,

How long would it take for a ten gallon tank with 70 degree water with a characoal filter, and a live plant with only a pleco inside it to grow algea? All comments appreaciative.

Depends on a lot of things, including lighting (not just the fixture but also ambient light), dissolved oxygen/CO2, how often water changes are being done, phosphate content in the water source, etc...

However, a 10g tank is nowhere near big enough for a pleco. They are huge waste producers and need a lot of swimming room. I would say that a 50g is the minimum for a standard pleco, and a 20g the minimum for a bristlenose.
You can, of course, keep with this setup if you wish. It would not be good for the fish, however, and its life span would be drastically shortened.
