Is this algae?

I have small circular whitish spots on the sides of my tank is this algae? if it is, would now be a good time to get a snail, or should i wait a bit?

How long has the tank been running? Is it through the cycle yet? What's your water chemistry look like?

It could be the beginning of diatoms, which isn't uncommon when a tank is done cycling. The spots will eventually turn brown.

the water has only just gotten out of the ammonium phase of the cycle, at least i think so because the water isn't cloudy anymore.

Do you not have a test kit? I highly recommend you get one so you can have accurate results on your water chemistry.

No, it's not usually visible in free-floating form, and it doesn't attach to the glass, only to fish.
