I have brown algae in my tank, but i'm not sure if it is alive, my question is "will my ottos eat dead algae?"

how old is the tank? what are your water parameters? im guessing its diatoms. a picture would be of great help figuring out what it is.

Agreed, it is probably diatoms.

the tank is several months old, and the water parameters are good. sorry about the pictures, i cant get them to attach, it says that are too large

probally diatoms limit feeding and do a water change
