Weirdness?

I did a 25% water change in my 5 gallon tank containing 2 platies and 1 guppy that I'm nursing back to health for a friend. Didn't do anything abnormal, water was conditioned, etc.

But for some reason, the platies and guppy are all near the surface of the water and "nibbling" at the surface (not gasping, just tiny little breaths). The water was dechlorinated, and the tank has an airstone that is functioning fine.

So why are they taking in air at the top all of the sudden??

Did you test your parameters?
pH, Amm, nitrite, nitrate, temperature

You may have shocked the fish with a pH swing or temp swing?

Are you sure they didn't think it was feeding time? Every single time I approach the tank to do maintenance, they all shoot to the surface waiting for food (and sometimes try to nibble my arm)

Well, apparently whatever it is has passed. The fish are all acting normal now. I think they were just thinking feeding time.

Sorry to get freaked out over nothing

Got to laugh at their antics. I've noticed my mollies always go to the top and do this, at first I panicked thinking it was ammonia poisoning, but with a big fat 0 on ammonia in the tank, I realised they were just crazy fish!!
