hi all

so i have a 60L tank and i used to have a Hydor Ario 4 undergravel air pump, like one of these

it broke on friday (yesterday) so i need to get a new one

the problem is i got it on ebay, none of by LFS stock them.

for today i got some oxegen tablets to add to the water, just to keep oxegen in the tank

Do i need to get a new air pump immediately?
if i need to get one online again, it will be 5 or 6 days

if not, i can get a new air pump today, but i dont know what type to get?
take into account that it needs to be quiet and there isnt really anywhere i can put it, maybe beside the tank but there isnt much room.

is it awkward to set up new airlines, or how would i go about doing this, the only pump ive ever had is the hydor

any pointers or help would be great, cheers

Good morning.

Sorry to hear that your air pump bit the dust If you have good surface agitation in your tank then an air pump isn't necessary. Although an oxygen supply line/air stone is always an added benefit.

Personally - I use an Eheim twin outlet pump - super quiet, but can be expensive (online usually cheaper, even after p&h)

New airlines you shouldn't need if it's just the pump, you just plug the old tubes into the new.

Re oxygen to water: as long as you have good surface agitation, and your temp is sub 28C (82F), your oxygen levels should be ok. When temp rises, water can't hold as much oxygen.

ah, so its not needed immediately

i have a Hagen Fluval U2 air water filter, this has an option where i can have the output coming out the top, it gives a lot of surface movement.
ill change it over to that until i get a new hydor, cheers

are oxegenating tablets needed?

i dont have any airlines in the tank though, id have to put them in now to a full, already decorated tank

Personally I think you'll be fine until you have the chance to replace the pump. The oxygen tablets aren't necessary.
