Powerhead or bubble wand?

As the colder weather is coming up I need to have my bettas tanks heated. Well, problem being I only have one heater and I'm not looking to buy another one. So I was thinking of either getting a 5 gallon or 10 gallon and spliting it down the middle with a betta on each side.
Now, I'm not sure if I would want a powerhead (I saw a nice powerhead made by aquaclear at petsmart today) or just to keep the bubblewands I have now for aeration.
Does a powerhead aerate the water pretty well is probably my main question? and could a powerhead be converted into a filter too?

A powerhead is a good option to go for...it not only airates the water through the air intake tube that usually comes along..it also provides you with a current that circulates water all through the tank...

yes it can be used as a filter...get a couple of catridges that are readily available and just place them on the intake...there are many DIY methods to making a filter for the power head aswell

Bettas aren't particularly fond of strong current, and just about any powerhead in a small tank will produce quite a bit. As for aeration they hardly use their gills to begin with, so it really isn't going to benefit them either way. I'd recommend an air-driven sponge filter to maintain the nitrogen cycle in a divided 10 gallon tank for 2 bettas.

So I'm leaning more towards the sponge filter now since I already have the air pump and such. Now where can I get a small sponge filter? Thank you for the idea toddnbecka

You can pick up a sponge filter dirt cheap on e-bay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT
Or, if you prefer a name brand instead of an Asian knockoff, this one would work: http://cgi.ebay.com/Lustar-Hydro-Spo...d=p3286.c0.m14
