Powerhead

Hey guys,

i currently have a 45 gallon tank stocked with 4 danios, 2 tetras, 2 angels, 1 bala shark, 2 swordtails, 1 RTBS and 3 clown loaches. I have a cannister filter doing 900 litres/hour. I closed the valves off half way because the danios seemed to be struggling with the force of the spray bar.

My question is: Are powerheads necessary? Do any of the fish I have like a reasonably strong current? Should I turn the filter back onto full? Should I get a powerhead?

No, but they can be beneficial in some instances.

the clown loaches

Can you turn it on a little more and see how they are affected?
Can you point/twist the spray bar upward or downward and see how that affects the fish?

Is your 45G 48" long?
If you can adjust the spray bar so the danios can live with it, then yes, I'd put a small power head in the bottom of the tank to stir up the detris.
It'd be good to get the extra water movement in the lower areas of tank.

Experiment with the spray bar aim first to see if you can get the flow turned on more.

Danios love strong currents. Not neccesary to buy a powerhead or to turn your filter on high.
