What can I use to get this bubble effect?

Anyone know what they use to make the bubbles in this clip?

Why? Not really good in small tank! if desire, use strong air pump with lime diffuser (S/W skimmer air stone).

Sorry, I'm pretty new at the fish keeping thing. Why wouldn't it be good in a small tank? I just like the look of the fine bubbles better than the larger ones that my (standard?) air stones make.

The bubbles in that one are probably the same size as yours, they just look smaller because they are in a much larger tank.

Could be. I just got the impression that it was a dense stream of very tiny bubbles. I like how it looks kind of like smoke (or an undersea magma vent).

Thank you for your replies.

The way microbubbles present themselves in S/W diffrently in F/W (hard to explain, try in salt tank and F/W, may see the difference yourself) plus that dense micro caused by Lime diffuser in S/W may diffuse faster in larger and better circulated water.
Besides, when fish are exposed to dense, microbubbles, have experienced air pocket being formed in their eyes.
Like i said, if desired, need strong pump (Piston type or even stronger compressor) to drive Lime stone in order to create such dense micros as does in Protein skimmer.

You make good arguments for not trying this myself. I had been thinking about trying my tanks without the airstones so I think this idea here is dead in the water for me.

You may also want to consider this item. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...6&pcatid=14686

I have one in my 10 gallon and its awesome. It also provides a nice play area if you you keep kulies .

Its a different effect than a column of bubbles but it does look great and does not create a lot of extra current.

Nice gadget, without tubing hanging over /around the tank, in and out.
